They haven't stopped testing my DGD had one yesterday
Probably higher anyway because not every body does a test

Popcornriver · 23/09/2020 17:14

Testing might not have stopped but one day last week the news reported that over 80% of people that needed a test couldn't get one.

Granolaslice · 23/09/2020 17:16

During March and April when predicted rates were at their highest, tests weren’t being done. So I think there were much higher rates then.

Char2015 · 23/09/2020 17:21

That figure is really alarming. I wonder how many of those testing positive are school children in which the vast majority have now been back for two weeks.

frozendaisy · 23/09/2020 17:23

It's the growth in transmission that matters right now. If it doesn't slow then more restrictions will be applied it seems.

glitterelf · 23/09/2020 17:23

Back in March / April you only got tested if in hospital, now though whilst they are testing there just are not enough tests and track and trace is not working as it should. We didn't know the full figures then and we still don't know now.

Concerned7777 · 23/09/2020 17:24

We can't compare today's figures with those from May as the amount of tests being carried out now compared to then Is significantly different. The actual amount of cases will of been far higher than officially documented in May

imamearcat · 23/09/2020 17:25

But don't worry, at least the pubs are shutting at 10 so that will sort it! Hmm

Ponoka7 · 23/09/2020 17:26

Witty and Vallance say that we aren't there yet, but will be if we don't apply caution and limit our social interactions.

However the Doctors interviewed on the BBC say that they are in a better position, treatment wise. But if the hospitals get overwhelmed then they will be back to choosing who to treat and who they can't help.

Zem74 · 23/09/2020 17:37

I read an article suggesting that they think back in the April peak It is believed daily positive Cases were around 100,000. But tests were only being done if admitted to hospital. So today’s figures really can’t be used as comparison to the past figures

SunbathingDragon · 23/09/2020 17:38

Testing might be very limited right now but it was nearly non existent at the peak of the virus earlier this year.

silentpool · 23/09/2020 17:41

It's meaningless. Many people can't get a test so who knows?

cuppycakey · 23/09/2020 18:16

Yes the real number will be much higher. However, tests have been available to everyone (allegedly) since May and the figures are higher than then.

Also, a higher percentage of those tested are positive......

But my friend who was previously able to stay at home shielding is now magically supposed to be fine to get a packed bus to work and it's all just super safe Confused Angry

Dustballs · 23/09/2020 18:47

Back in May schools and many businesses were not open as they are now. So infections had much less chance to spread.

Even if infection levels are lower now they have far greater opportunity to grow.

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 23/09/2020 19:09

Can anyone get a test now? I've been trying all day as my son has a cough but it just says the service is too busy. How utterly pointless.
