The essential travel only message yesterday.. does that mean the welsh can’t go on holidays? Or day trips?

To me essential travel is getting to work, going to help someone, hospital appointments and as the government are keeping shops open, to get essentials in your local town. I think something was said this morning about not travelling far to avoid spreading, so I'd say keep it local within your council area

LoveNote · 23/09/2020 11:16

Holidays aren’t essential so yes, it means that

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 23/09/2020 11:23

www.google.com/amp/s/www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/wales-coronavirus-lockdown-rules-restrictions-18978864.amp

"The First Minister also asked people to only travel when you need to do so, saying: "The fewer people we meet and the fewer journeys we make, the safer we all are." However, other than in the areas already locked down in Wales, which are subject to specific restrictions on travel, this is not currently a set rule that applies across Wales and is more guidance."

Viv0321 · 23/09/2020 11:23

Thankyou. The rules are changing everyday! I think I’ve read that people from england can come on holiday to wales? It doesn’t make sense.

Why would you want to go still? Everything will be closed, restricted and the welsh are not going to want you there if they are on lockdown themselves

Bwlch · 23/09/2020 11:37

I think I’ve read that people from england can come on holiday to wales? It doesn’t make sense.

Not to the areas in lockdown, they can't.

Viv0321 · 23/09/2020 15:45

I think mark drake ford has said he doesn’t want to stop anyone from going on holidays but they should think carefully?

Travelling for holidays is not essential. As other posters said it means you can go to work, food shopping and for hospital / doctors appointments. The rest is non essential.

ACautionaryTale · 23/09/2020 16:13

I'm hoping not - have a table and a night stay booked at ynyshir end of November - will be gutted if it doesn't happen

Viv0321 · 23/09/2020 16:28

I should have said he said to ‘think carefully about the arrangements you are making’

I'm struggling to understand why it's ok for those on holiday in Wales from other countries to swan about wherever they like, but not ok for people living in Wales to do anything other than essential journeys. Frankly it is bonkers.

BuggeredItUpAgain · 23/09/2020 17:12

It’s just the areas in lockdown though isn’t it U8myufo? People won’t be going on holiday to the places in Wales that are locked down already.

I’m hoping Cardiff doesn’t get added - supposed to be going to stay in a hotel there this weekend and already had to move it twice.

The rules are all so contradictory. Where I am (touristy SW town) is still full of people on holiday from Blackburn as they’re allowed (or were allowed until yesterday) to travel out of area for holidays despite their town being on lockdown.

Marmite133 · 23/09/2020 17:14

It's not the whole of wales. Just some areas.

U8myufo · 23/09/2020 17:18

I thought the advice was Wales wide as general advice but maybe I have misunderstood. It is a bit ambiguous sometimes.

Viv0321 · 23/09/2020 17:22

The advice is wales in general.

This is what the BBC sum up is saying...

Can I book a holiday in Wales?

You can book a holiday with members of your household or extended household in self-contained accommodation or hotels, B&Bs and campsites with shared facilities in Wales.

But you cannot currently go on holiday with anyone that is not part of your household or extended household.

People under local lockdown restrictions are not allowed to leave the county, including to go on holiday elsewhere in Wales.

Wondering if there are any welsh here that are going on a uk holiday?

Lockdownfatigue · 24/09/2020 13:03

It isn’t essential travel only. It’s consider whether your journey is necessary, which is different.

The First Minister has made it clear that tourism can continue for now except in lockdown areas.

Welsh here. Considering whether to visit family over the border as planned in a couple of weeks, not in a lockdown area. Will see what happens to cases. If it was this week we would go.

Lockdownfatigue · 24/09/2020 13:04

We are going away this weekend however but within our county

Viv0321 · 24/09/2020 13:38

Lockdown- Yes, it is if the journey Is necessary, I worded it wrong.

As you say, if the first minister made it clear; then it should mean it’s fine then.
