Child told to stay off school for 10 days even if negative

Hi me and my son have woken up with a cough this morning. We're both getting a test, I rang the school and they said even if they're both negative my son can't go back for 10 days. Is this correct?

It isn't the policy at our school. A negative tests means anyone can return.

RedRumTheHorse · 23/09/2020 09:13

Get the test results then have that disagreement with the school if you are both negative.

Char2015 · 23/09/2020 09:15

It shouldn't be policy at any school if they are following Government guidance.

Flagsfiend · 23/09/2020 09:22

When you get a negative result it says you can return if all the below are true:

  • you haven't had a fever for 48 hours
  • you feel well
  • no one else in your household has a positive test or has symptoms and is waiting for results
  • you haven't been told to isolate by track and trace or due to travel quarantine

So just a cough and feel well you are fine to return. Although it may be wise to stay away until the cough has subsided.

Thank you I thought it was wrong and double checked what she said, I work at a testing site and I've never heard that before. We'll discuss it with the school if they're negative.

If the school is going to do that they won’t have many pupils to teach!

cologne4711 · 23/09/2020 12:06

That's probably the whole idea, Lumene. Get most of the kids isolating and there won't be any problems with social distancing.
