My ‘locked down’ areas cases have continued to rise despite the ‘measures’ in place.

People will just assume things aren’t that bad, otherwise we’d be in lock down. Schools will be a major source of transmission (and save your wishful thinking, we all know what is happening there). People will just cram in to pubs earlier.

We are now guaranteed a second lockdown within the next three/four weeks.

Well, it’s better than nothing, that is for sure.

A "proper lockdown" like they did in Spain with kids banned from leaving the house for 7 weeks? Perhaps the Army on the street, shooting people who leave the house? Tags on everyone which explode if they venture more than 500 feet from their houses?

These measures haven't made any difference in current lockdown areas. On that basis they're about the same as doing nothing.

OP has a very valid point. Bolton have been doing the closing at 10 for about 10 days now and cases are rising not declining. Another 2 to 3 weeks and we’ll know for sure if this measure (and the rule of six) actually works.

I don’t believe we’ll have a full lockdown but I definitely expect more restrictions will follow.

Surely better we try this than have hard lockdown straight away which many don't want

Threads like this serve no purpose and are started only to cause anxiety and upset. It’s is obvious that your only intention is to cause distress to others.

Another lockdown might happen but we all need to live our life’s now and deal with that when it happens.

I just don't understand some people being so happy and wishing a second lockdown so that people could be punished. Not just this thread but from other threads too. This is all shambles. Our life is being destroyed. Our economy is destroyed. Our freedom is being taken away and we are being forced to live without human contact apart from technology which lockdowns have proved that it doesn't change anything. Look at Spain and look at Sweden. We must learn to live with it, Covid isn't going anywhere.

Hello from Spain- I've posted on another thread but in many regions our numbers are starting to fall. Officials are tentative but hopeful . And although we have restrictions (mainly masks everywhere) which were put in before the second wave, no extra restrictions have been implemented and indeed our schools returned last week! Madrid is really struggling but the rest of the country including areas with early second waves have R numbers below one now. Spain is socially distancing very carefully at work and school and less carefully on the street.

So let's keep everything crossed for a natural fall in the curve...

I watched a documentary on the blitz the other night and it made me think about how some people in this country need to be reminded of what it’s really like to have your lives turned upside down and freedoms taken away.
