Because these new measures will NOT reduce the R. Not a chance in hell.

My ‘locked down’ areas cases have continued to rise despite the ‘measures’ in place.

People will just assume things aren’t that bad, otherwise we’d be in lock down. Schools will be a major source of transmission (and save your wishful thinking, we all know what is happening there). People will just cram in to pubs earlier.

We are now guaranteed a second lockdown within the next three/four weeks.

OP posts:
GeologyRox · 22/09/2020 14:34

Well they won't cram into pubs will they due to the fact that all hospitality has been restricted to seated table service so numbers will be capped

Oh good, more reasons for people to stamp their feet and have tantrums because they can't get into somewhere and 'Its not fair', or they can't stand at the bar or stay past 10pm.
Quite why those things are such a problem I don't know. Hardly going to cause life long psychological scars having to wait 5 minutes longer for a glass of merlot because it's table service and you can't queue at the bar or because you have to be out by 10pm.
If people hadn't gone stupid and put their "experience" above anything else, even a pandemic, and followed the guidelines, then we might not be here now.
Instead we've had people totally ignoring measures put in place, refusing to listen to the staff charged with getting people to comply with the guidelines and treating it like a personal attack on their "rights" or getting all self righteous and shouting about jobsworths and power trips when asked to follow the guidelines, and here we are.
A lot of people need to look closer to home and at their own behaviour as to why things have got stricter now. Still, expect those people will just keep shouting at the staff who have to uphold these new rules as if they're just doing it to be awkward rather than because they have to. That'll learn 'em 🙄

PimlicoJo · 22/09/2020 14:37

Geologyrox I agree.

swabthenose · 22/09/2020 14:37

Oh OP. It's just the first time all over again. Nobody will believe it till it happens. People in this country seem to be incredibly arrogant and incapable of learning even from extremely recent history.

Cocklepops · 22/09/2020 14:38

Seriously, which update in Parliament from the PM did you watch, OP, to come up with that as a summary. Get a grip.

Quickchange5 · 22/09/2020 14:45

Far to many people view the rules we have as something for them to selfishly get round somehow . The problem is the human race sadly

LetMeJustLookAtTheFuckingHam · 22/09/2020 14:46

If you look at the timing of the posts you will see my post was clearly in response to your earlier posts and I couldn't have seen the post where you said that.

If you want support for mental health I'm sure MN will give lots - in fact I have posted on some myself this week, but they were threads for that - making it clear they wanted support, not the thread you started. I, as lots of other people, replied to your initial post(s) in the spirit, so please don't single me out as though I'm mocking someone for having suicidal thoughts when that is not the case at all.

Perhaps start a thread for support and it will be more helpful than this thread.

BatSegundo · 22/09/2020 14:48

You've had a lot of responses from trolls/arseholes OP.

Being worried that the measures that were announced today will lead to another lockdown is a valid fear. Despite the assertions on this thread and many others, I'm yet to meet one person who would welcome another lockdown. Trying to dismiss anyone who's worried about Coronavirus as some sort of deranged Cassandra is bullying, plain and simple.

LetMeJustLookAtTheFuckingHam · 22/09/2020 14:49

@MoaningMurlock

God you're a little ray of fucking darkness aren't you.

Now plenty of people have been rude to me on this post, without seemingly reading my posts or salivating over my possible ‘motives’ for questioning the measures announced...

But if this comment is directed at me purely because I just disclosed I had had suicidal thoughts during the first lockdown then that is low even for you pack of hyenas falling on any who are questioning how much use the announcement today was.

Fuck sake, I meant to quote the post I was replying to (my above post) I cannot get to grips with this new app!
ceeveebee · 22/09/2020 14:51

I wish Nicola Sturgeon was in charge. Scottish restrictions far more sensible - same 10pm pub curfew, no indoor mixing other than for informal childcare, can still mix in gardens and children under 12 not included in rule of 6. Hmm

Timeforanotherusername · 22/09/2020 14:53

ceevee you possibly don't realise the rule of 6 in Scotland is 2 households.

Also have you ever spent a winter in Scotland?

Timeforanotherusername · 22/09/2020 14:54

In my opinion if you enforce unnecessary restriction on large swathes on the population then you have less im your arsenal when you need it.

She already has large parts of Scotland under these restrictions but i don't really think it was necessary to expand it.

justasking111 · 22/09/2020 14:57

@MoaningMurlock

Well I think I’m going to leave this thread now. I dearly hope I’m wrong but am terrified that I’m not.

Thank you those that actually read my posts.

And to the ‘mean girls’, I hope you are nicer to people who think differently to you in real life.

Well seeing as you did not exist before yesterday I think we are not the loser in you bowing out.
Topseyt · 22/09/2020 14:58

@SockYarn

What would you suggest then, Moaning Myrtle?

A "proper lockdown" like they did in Spain with kids banned from leaving the house for 7 weeks? Perhaps the Army on the street, shooting people who leave the house? Tags on everyone which explode if they venture more than 500 feet from their houses?

Plenty on here would be utterly salivating at that thought.
EvilPea · 22/09/2020 14:59

For my area the 10pm curfew is a waste of time. We are all tucked up in bed by then

However, in a Uni town or a town with pubs and restaurants etc then yes I can see the point

Friendsoftheearth · 22/09/2020 15:00

I think Nicola is spending her time trying to score political points at the cost of the Scottish people. There is no need for draconian measures at this point, no need at all. Overreaction that is going to see her popularity plummet. I would be incandescent if I lived in Scotland, and was given such severe restrictions for no reason, large parts of Scotland are unaffected by covid, but in one big sweeping statement she has removed their freedoms. WTAH is going on.

CurlyStrawsRock · 22/09/2020 15:01

Oh shhh. For goodness sake get a grip.

The80sweregreat · 22/09/2020 15:02

It's the last chance to get people to comply. I'm a few weeks the R rate might go up and it'll be back to square one :(

Friendsoftheearth · 22/09/2020 15:05

Scots won't get the chance will they, I am glad we are taking our time before we rush in with hideous measures.

LetMeJustLookAtTheFuckingHam · 22/09/2020 15:05

In my area the 10pm curfew means everyone will leave the pubs and go to each other's houses for afterparty Hmm it's so fucking stupid.

It also fucking enrages me that the people still shielding in local lockdown areas just get totally glossed over as though it's not important and other CEV people are just under review. One sentence as though it's nothing.

LetMeJustLookAtTheFuckingHam · 22/09/2020 15:06

Oh sorry constant review Hmm

Timeforanotherusername · 22/09/2020 15:06

friends you may be surprised. You obviously don't understand the deep-rooted hate for Boris in Scotland. Totally justified too.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 22/09/2020 15:07

This is the bit I didn't like at all.

I don't trust this govt not to abuse their powers.

Friendsoftheearth · 22/09/2020 15:11

I don't care about the deep rooted hate for Boris in Scotland time but I would not be impressed with Nicola right now regardless of my political persuasions. Point scoring with people's liberties and making things more difficult than they need to be is not helping anyone.

starfish4 · 22/09/2020 15:13

I can't believe we haven't got further social restrictions, like Scotland, given that meeting others indoors has been a major source of transmission. It's no big deal to meet up with others for some fresh air, in fact, it'll do us good to get out.

Orangeblossom7777 · 22/09/2020 15:13

That will be a joy socialising in gardens in a Scottish winter. Even in places like the Highlands where the cases are low Hmm but oh yes Nicola has to be different and more 'cautious'. Right.
