That’s that then. Second lockdown now guaranteed.

Because these new measures will NOT reduce the R. Not a chance in hell.

My ‘locked down’ areas cases have continued to rise despite the ‘measures’ in place.

People will just assume things aren’t that bad, otherwise we’d be in lock down. Schools will be a major source of transmission (and save your wishful thinking, we all know what is happening there). People will just cram in to pubs earlier.

We are now guaranteed a second lockdown within the next three/four weeks.

Yes I know @SoUtterlyGroundDown, that's what I was saying. I don't know why people hear military and assume it's going to be patrolling the streets with a rifle; there's actually a really wide breadth of things they are trained in and do here and abroad. .

Yes sorry I was agreeing with you, I quoted the wrong bit Grin

@Elephantday82

Not a chance of a full lockdown IMO. They did it in Belgium. The R rate dropped right down to under one and started to rise again as soon as they ended.
They didn't have a 2nd lock down in Belgium. And the 1st one was similar to what was in place in the U.K.

@MoaningMurlock

You come along, start a thread saying "Second lockdown now guaranteed" then you moan at people replying.

Just don't start a thread then if you don't want replies. Or perhaps only post if you agree with me thread.

We are all different and want different things and a forum on the internet is for that. It's not there to rub your ego telling you that you are correct or agree with everything you say. Hmm

MoaningMurlock · 22/09/2020 13:56

God you're a little ray of fucking darkness aren't you.

Now plenty of people have been rude to me on this post, without seemingly reading my posts or salivating over my possible ‘motives’ for questioning the measures announced...

But if this comment is directed at me purely because I just disclosed I had had suicidal thoughts during the first lockdown then that is low even for you pack of hyenas falling on any who are questioning how much use the announcement today was.

That's a relief, I was braced for something dramatic after all the build up.

annabel85 · 22/09/2020 13:57

@OverTheRainbow88

Well, it’s better than nothing, that is for sure.
They couldn't do nothing after the guidance yesterday and we can't afford a full lockdown.

Problem is the fuck ups that have led to this, particularly testing.

I am quite happy to have replies and don’t mind people disagreeing.

Posters not bothering to read my actual post and being vicious for no reason, not so much.

Lol! All these smarmy “I’ll have the lottery numbers please Mystic Meg ner ner neeeerrr”

Everyone said this last time and a National lockdown followed very swiftly!

everythingthelighttouches · 22/09/2020 13:58

So you're fine with a more restrictive one now, but wouldn't be with one in a few weeks time?

I’d be fine with no mixing of more than one household and masks in public now if it means we can still keep schools open, restaurants, pubs, shops can still stay open.

Rather than what I anticipate will happen which is more of a full lockdown for a lot longer in a few weeks.

Why in the name of Fuck would we be wearing masks outside?

Because currently lots of us are standing in the park after school chatting or in town if we bump into people and we’re really not staying 2m apart.

wearing masks would help reduce transmission.

IcedPurple · 22/09/2020 13:59

@SockYarn

What would you suggest then, Moaning Myrtle?

A "proper lockdown" like they did in Spain with kids banned from leaving the house for 7 weeks? Perhaps the Army on the street, shooting people who leave the house? Tags on everyone which explode if they venture more than 500 feet from their houses?

Which led to Spain having one of the highest resurgences in Europe, with nearly one million people in Madrid now under lockdown again.
VaTeLaverLesMains · 22/09/2020 13:59

Unfortunately no rules will work as so many people are not following them.

They are even less likely to follow harsher rules.

Some people just can't afford to follow rules and lose income.

Many people can't effectively self isolate because of their living situation.

The government messaging is poor, conflicting, confusing and at times hypocritical and tone deaf, and they have lost many people's confidence.

Some people cannot understand that a virus will replicate regardless as long as it can find suitable hosts, in a relentless mathematical way regardless of political views or how hard things are.

I think the only thing which will work unfortunately is people seeing with their own eyes people around them getting sick.

As so far only about 8% of us have had covid, it's not enough for the majority to really understand from their own experience.

There's no good solution, but slagging each other off is not going to improve things.

People behave differently when in difficult situations, and that's what we're up against.

I have no answers, just my thoughts Grin

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 22/09/2020 14:00

@Timeforabiscuit

Who is going to do the enforcement? @Itsabeautifuldayheyhey**

Police - don't have the numbers, I'm sure they want to be poking every gobshite in town with a £200 fine.
The PM said there will be a greater police presence on our streets and hasn't ruled out bringing in the military, if necessary.

If the police concentrate on pubs, bars, restaurants who aren't complying and people having illegal raves, that will go a long way. The businesses not complying can be closed down. That'll stop the people attending them who aren't compliant with social-distancing.

On TV London looks like it has many pubs and bars complying with the rules but photos in other areas show pubs are shambolic with no social-distancing whatsoever. Table service might be the norm in London but isn't generally everywhere else. Table service will definitely make a difference.

MoaningMurlock · 22/09/2020 14:01

Well I think I’m going to leave this thread now. I dearly hope I’m wrong but am terrified that I’m not.

Thank you those that actually read my posts.

And to the ‘mean girls’, I hope you are nicer to people who think differently to you in real life.

maudesid · 22/09/2020 14:02

Well they won't cram into pubs will they due to the fact that all hospitality has been restricted to seated table service so numbers will be capped

UnaMujer · 22/09/2020 14:02

@RB68

Did you not notice his slip in of "to allow the military" with regard to helping out the police
I noticed this too.

I’m surprised their aren’t more people who noticed that he told us there will be military on the streets

EasterIssland · 22/09/2020 14:03

Didn’t you post something similar today ?

SockYarn · 22/09/2020 14:03

Which led to Spain having one of the highest resurgences in Europe, with nearly one million people in Madrid now under lockdown again.

Indeed. But that didn't stop people back in April wittering on about how marvellous it all was.

coconutzzz · 22/09/2020 14:03

@SockYarn

What are Friday's lottery numbers, Mystic Meg?
😂😂
mediumperiperi · 22/09/2020 14:04

I think you've been given an unnecessarily hard time here.
Last week the newspapers leaked the idea of a 2 week Lockdown over October half-term ("circuit breaker") so it's not surprising that people were questioning the possibility of Lockdown 2.
Yesterday we had the CMO and CSO explain that no action meant possibly 10k+ cases and 200 deaths a day. The fact that Johnson is doing a televised broadcast tonight also added to the feeling that major changes was going to be announced.

I hope that the little tweaks help slow the spread because I don't want a lockdown but I am sceptical that these little tweaks will help,

WhoWants2Know · 22/09/2020 14:04

I agree with you OP that most of what Boris announced so far won't do much to slow the rise in infections.

I don't feel that the police have the numbers to be issuing fines to every person who goes somewhere without a mask (and who will likely say they are exempt anyway) or invites more than 6 to their house.

The only thing I saw that might potentially help, was winding back the advice to go into the office and telling people to work from home if they can. If enough people can work from home, it reduces the number sharing space in offices and public transport.

TheDrsDocMartens · 22/09/2020 14:04

Johnson said ‘definitely not’ to another lockdown last week so it’s almost certainly happening.

ceeveebee · 22/09/2020 14:05

I actually agree with the OP - there have been stricter measures in place in Bolton for a while and they haven’t worked.I had expected to ban people mixing indoors. Otherwise surely at 10pm people will just all go back to their mates houses (in groups of 6 of course Hmm) and that’s less “COVID secure” than staying in a pub with table service surely??
