What type of cough?

DS age two has another cough. DS started nursery in September 2019 and coughed continuously from October until March when lockdown started. He returned to nursery in July. By the end of July the cough was back and nursery asked us to get COVID tested to be on the safe side and it was indeed negative.

The cough eased as the weather warmed up but now it's back. It doesn't trouble him and he has no other symptoms of anything. He'll cough a bit a few times and then nothing for a few hours. It's worse in the morning I.e now but but mid morning can go the rest of the day without coughing.

I've read the NHS guidance on what sort of cough is a COVID cough and don't find it helpful. I would say he is sometimes coughing more than 3x per hour, but given his history, I don't think this is a new cough.

I'm conscious of all the masses apparently clogging up the testing system unnecessarily and think it's a fine line between getting this right or wrong. I don't know what to do.
