Is a Rash a new symptoms?

So I have done my research and looking at Sky News whom are usually good for info say a rash may be a sign. My 15 year old boy never gets any rash in his life and now has one on both arms only. Worst one is as pictured. It's also very itchy. I have tired to get a LIVI appt tonight but no luck I'll try again tomorrow. He took these himself before bed for me so I'll have to wait till tomorrow for better ones. They are both his right arm.

TeenMummy · 20/09/2020 23:29

Just very itch. His temp had been fine at 37.4 it's up for him but otherwise he feels all good

Zoe symptom tracker and others definitely say a rash is a symptom in children, they have pictures too.

What's a LIVI appointment?

TeenMummy · 20/09/2020 23:32

@Augustbreeze Thank you I'll speak to LIVI first thing. They are a online GP the same as speaking to my GP www.livi.co.uk

Could be just post viral rash - best to get it checked and he may need a Covid test, in which case you'll need to isolate as a family until you have the results.

Zoe app people have found that 15% of children with Covid present with an unusual skin rash. However, our government have not included it on their (very limited) list of symptoms that warrant a test, so you may find you are advised that no test is needed.

This report from Zoe app people has photos showing examples of Covid rashes.

My DH has a rash all over his trunk, he's not been sick but tired and rundown. Looks like a bit like ring worm but isn't reponding to antifungal cream and is only getting worse. Worried it might be Covid related.

My son had this and confirmed Corona.

Apparently young kids get a viral rash (when it's a virus)

Maycavy · 21/09/2020 00:29

Just looking for information myself about rashes as have come out with a hives type of rash on both arms and my lower back. Really not sure whether to try and test for this as like you say it’s not listed as an official symptom. Hope your son is ok.

at the start of July I developed a really itchy rash. It started on my arms, then over the course of the next 10 days spread over my whole body excluding my face. from day 7ish I felt generally unwell, headache and really tired and shivery - but temp was normal. tried to get a GP app but was told I needed a covid test. thankfully this was back when testing was easy, so had test and got negative result - although tus was about 9 of symptoms anyway.. then had to wait another 4 days to speak to gp who looked at photos i sent and said it was a viral rash??? all very odd, eventually it went away, but I was off work for 10 days ...... I still would love to know what on earth it was!

There is a child that closed a school bubble near me and the only symptom was a rash.

I’m convinced we had Covid in March. I thought my daughter had chicken pox but it wasn’t pox.

Maycavy · 21/09/2020 07:28

How strange, it’s the second guessing that’s the worrying thing. Rashes can occur for a number of reasons - after a bit of a sleepless night worrying about whether I should try to get a test for my rash I’ve woken up to it completely gone this morning. I suppose I just have to wait and see if something else happens or it comes back.

So we have been to the pharmacy who said he won't be tested he's not got any symptoms so they won't entertain it. We have been given HC45 cream and to come back in a few days if it's worse and to take an antihistamine regularly to try help. They have said an allergy type rash but he's not allergic to anything and we haven't changed anything so I'm not to sure. Iv tried to call our GP today and will try again later. This is his arm this morning.

Are there any cases of covid reported at his school or anyone that you know?
If so then I would be tempted to try to get a test. If not then as the pharmacist says it's not one of the listed symptoms for testing. However, if any family member comes down with any of the three symptoms then they should then get a test.

TeenMummy · 21/09/2020 16:32

@JS87 I have checked with school and no reported cases. All of us are well. School are happy with him being there so he'll go back tomorrow I kept him off today just to make sure I didn't want to put anyone at risk. Once they are happy and the pharmacy are happy ill go on both their decisions. Thank you all
