Don't know what to do!

Our car is having an MOT etc and due back on Monday (no idea what time on Monday though). We thought about getting a zip car to try the drive through test site at Twickenham but the toddler car seat is in our car.

We can afford to pay for a test, but as that comes through the post, is it worth it?

Should I wait until Monday/Tuesday when I have our car and go to Twickenham?

He does also now have an intermittent cough.

I think you need to book one online don't you before you go? Hopefully someone who knows more will come along. I'm trying to get one but I'm in a different county.

humidifierx · 19/09/2020 20:23

Can't book and can't get a postal test

I'm so annoyed with the testing situation at the moment. WHY haven't they sorted it out by now?
I'm really sorry to say that you are going to have to keep on the website as often as possible from what I've read. Your entire household must isolate too, you can't leave your house, even for a walk. It sucks. I reallt hope you manage to get a test. I've no experience with the paid tests. Hopefully someone else will.

covetingthepreciousthings · 19/09/2020 20:35

You just need to keep refreshing the page, it's really frustrating, i was trying all day Monday and then finally got one Tuesday lunchtime. It just seems to be pure chance if you refresh at the right time Sad It's a shit situation.

pollylocketpickedapocket · 19/09/2020 20:37

Your kid has a cold. If COVID is supposed to be so contagious you'd all be ill.

Siennabear · 19/09/2020 20:37

Sounds like a cold

missyB1 · 19/09/2020 20:39

Does sound like a cold. Tbh I wouldn’t be trying to get a test.

IKEA888 · 19/09/2020 20:42

I'm in Scotland we've been told here not to get a test if sneezing/ nose blocked/ runny as likely a cold.
Here there was a nasty virus with a temp and cold going round.
I wouldn't get a test

Augustbreeze · 19/09/2020 20:43

If the child has/had a temp, (s)he needs to be tested and/or the household need to isolate.

The highly infectious nature of Covid-19 doesn't mean that individuals in one particular family will definitely catch it from one another, so this is no proof.

Creamegg11 · 19/09/2020 20:44

I too think your son has a cold. I read that sneezing is not a symptom of coronavirus. I hope he feels better soon.

pepperwood · 19/09/2020 20:46

It's entirely possible to have two things at once. Yes it probably is just a cold but if someone had any of the symptoms they and those they live with need to self isolate until the unwell person has a negative test result.

Yetiyoga · 19/09/2020 20:46

Oh gosh. The replies on here are worrying. I wish people would follow government guidance on testing / isolating. We all want to be back to normal but how can we if people don't follow.
Sneezing isn't a symtom, no.
But a high temp and a cough is. Op said her child has both. Therefore they need to test and isolate until results come back.

humidifierx · 19/09/2020 21:29

I'll have to keep refreshing the page.

In my heart of hearts I know it's a cold. But what if it isn't? That's the question that needs answering with a bloody test!

CountessFrog · 19/09/2020 21:31

She said he has an intermittent cough.

It has to be a persistent, continuous cough.

Those words aren’t the same.

whirlwindwallaby · 19/09/2020 21:33

Sounds like a cold. My teen has something similar but we don't have a thermometer.

ToadCandle · 19/09/2020 21:35

This is useful.

Handsnotwands · 19/09/2020 21:35

But even if you could have a test, and it was positive, there’d be no treatment unless he was vv ill, which is highly unlikely

I get having to isolate is hideous but it’s not like he’d be seen by a dr and given medicine if you did know it was Covid

whirlwindwallaby · 19/09/2020 21:38

This is useful I almost always get a headache with a cold, is that actually rare?

Arabiannightss · 19/09/2020 21:42

Op I would go with your gut because I posted earlier that Dc had a cough and snotty noses and everyone said yes get a test, only one symptom needed, cold and Covid so similar.
We all went for the test, I feel in my heart it’s a cold but testing is done now.
I am a key worker so I checked that option but they didn’t ask for proof when I got there.

ILoveTeeeeeea · 19/09/2020 23:30

Try tomorrow between 8.00am-10.30am for Monday morning @ Twick. That’s when there seemed to be tests coming through this morning online. We got one today, but there were also lots for Twick and surrounding areas, such as Hounslow @ 10am tomorrow so you could book them for Monday morning- tomorrow morning. It was very quiet too- best of luck

Torvean32 · 19/09/2020 23:56

Does he have a continuous cough, and a continuous temperature.

Here's a video of a child with Covid, so you can hear the cough.
