1 in 7 people in England is now under some kind of ‘local’ restriction (eg no mixing of households). I have family in Birmingham and they’re carrying on completely as normal. Same with Manchester (who seem to have been under a local lockdown forever).
Is there any evidence that these local lockdowns are even working? The one in Leicester was effective but that may be because it also involved the closure (non-opening) of businesses, rather than just saying ‘carrying on going to work/school but don’t meet your family and friends’.
I understand the rationale behind minimising contacts and transmissions, but I can’t see that these lockdowns are making any actual difference.
