supermarket 'quiet hours' for the 'elderly' - age what?

I've never been sure what age this applies to and have started to wonder if DH and I have been missing out.

They don't ask for ID so what IS the age?

What age are you ? Fwiw my parents are 68 and 70 and used to go to the elderly hour at morrisons or maybe it was Tesco during lockdown.

65 and 66

I think that would be acceptable just go and do quiet shopping I don't think my mum has been id she looks younger than she is.

The issue (not being a stealth boast at all) is that I have had ID queried when asked for concessions (rail card, NT, galleries ,etc etc) as people think I am younger.

Are they still doing the quiet hours? They've not really been mentioned recently

Take it as a compliment and swan in have ID with you .

Id love quiet hour. Im 40. I once went shopping at aldi in their last hour of opening after the clocks changed, but they had not yet reset the timers on the lights. So the lights were all dimmed. It was lovely. So much calmer. Everyone still shopping was calm too.

They have reduced the number of days but locally, my supermarket has Mon Wed and Fridays for the first hour as for the 'elderly'.

It's not a big deal- I've been going in the evening after 6 when it's very quiet, but if we are going to have a bigger 2nd wave I just wondered what the age was.

Didn’t know they were still doing it. My local Tesco hasn’t bothered with one way traffic or restricting numbers for ages, so I don’t think they’d even enforce it.

FWIW My mum wouldn’t be seen dead in the elderly hour, as she said it’s for old people. She’s 75.

Most supermarkets dropped the hours for elderly shoppers back in July. Asking for proof for concessions is normal.

My mum is just deseprate to go to a shop- any shop- and she's 93 @Redcrayons

I am doing all her shopping for her online, 300 miles away, including an ongoing supply of make up and face creams!

I'm not sure they're still a thing here either but if you want to know I'd say phone up the shop and ask them.

@JinglingHellsBells 93 definitely falls into ‘elderly’. It must be awful for her. In the beginning I was only going twice a month and I was like a caged animal released into the wild. I was talking the ears of the cashier.

I've always found evenings to be far quieter than elderly and vulnerable hour, sainsburys Tuesday at 7pm is absolutely deserted very rarely see another soul is fab.
