Anyone aware of any nursery outbreaks?

Just that really. My kids have been back in since June, I’ve tested one off my own back but have not been asked to isolate/test/etc.

I wondered if this is because It isn’t happening or because schools are stricter? Or is it mainly older age groups affected in schools?

I’m fully aware that him being there isn’t risk free, I’m just curious!

I haven't heard anything about nurseries at all. That's an interesting point.

Thegirlhasnoname · 10/09/2020 14:08

The nursery my 1 year old goes to had 2 positive tests at the beginning of August; one in the pre-school bubble (3-5 year olds) and one in the toddler room (2-3 year olds).

PHE said they weren’t allowed to tell parents if it was a child or staff member that tested positive annoyingly but have had nothing since. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

None at our small nursery or at any of the other nurseries that they co-ordinated with during lockdown apparently. A couple of staff had tests after minor symptoms but none positive. Considering they were open throughout lockdown and serving higher risk families I think it is good news.

I’m aware of one locally that had four cases. Closely located near a factory outbreak and likely linked, but both appear to have been contained quickly and well.

There was one in Milton Keynes a couple of months ago, that's all I've heard of.

Peanutbutteryogurt · 10/09/2020 15:06

DD's nursery had a positive case in her group and DD has to isolate for two weeks. No one else caught it

Keepdistance · 10/09/2020 15:08

Youbgerbones less likely to have symptoms. Or they are different i wouldnt be surprised if lots of nursery staff had covid in march.

Jenasaurus · 10/09/2020 15:10

Pleased to report that my DD who works in a nursery has had no outbreaks or DC presenting symptoms so far at her place, but we are South East where numbers are still low.

Jenasaurus · 10/09/2020 15:12

My DD has banned me from talking about the virus anymore, as she says she finds it stressful so just wants to get on with following the rules and getting on with her life. I think the fact she cant listen to news, or discuss it is very telling though, so she probably is worried but as she cant do anything about her concerns she blocks them out, sensible really.

I was speaking to our nursery manager where my daughter goes for wraparound care. They have been open throughout lockdown for key worker kids and have had kid that have needed to be tested but not had any cases yet.

Pertella · 10/09/2020 15:23

My DDs nursery stayed open throughout lockdown and hasn't had any cases.

Remmy123 · 10/09/2020 15:30

Son been back since June and nothing - no staff or kids

Shitfuckoh · 10/09/2020 15:33

1 of the 2 local to me had 2 staff test positive last week. A primary school also had 1 positive case day before yesterday.

ToxicTracey · 10/09/2020 15:39

We've had someone text positive in the baby room at DDs nursery just this week. First positive we're aware of in this nursery though.

Thanks for responses, just interested I guess. I guess we see what happens now the older siblings are back at school....

My daughter returned to one nursery in June & switched to a new one in August.. nothing at either one (so far).. I’ve got loadsa friends with kids in nursery across our large town & beyond and I know of one case.. I find it quite strange as nursery aged kids are so flipping germy, everything in their mouths, close contact with everyone!

Tamtam86 · 11/09/2020 09:42

My daughter's nursery had one child who tested positive just after they reopened in June, they shut for 2 weeks and had no other cases or children/staff with symptoms

Tumbleweed101 · 11/09/2020 18:17

We’ve been open through lockdown and no cases at the nursery. Had a couple sent for tests but they were negative.

We may well have had it go through the nursery Feb/March time as we were sending loads of children home with sudden temperatures which were spiking at over 40C within an hour of starting. I was unwell and had a cough and missed a couple days at work. A few colleagues were off with what we assumed was flu at the time but fitted the criteria for Covid just after the children had been unwell. Guess we will never know for sure but I am curious if it was that.

Sunshinegirl82 · 11/09/2020 19:29

I have mentioned a few times in the school threads that there was a lot of concern about nurseries reopening at the time but those concerns don't seem to have been born out. I appreciate secondary school is a different kettle of fish but I still think it's a positive!

DS1 went back to nursery on 1st June and no cases or issues at all. We had him tested once due to a temp (negative). He's now starting reception. DS2 at a childminder since 1st June, no cases, no tests.

We are south east so cases are still low across the board.
