Hands up if you or family members has symptoms but can’t get a test!

DD has been at school for 5 half days and now has a temp. Can’t get a test. How many else of you are in the same position?

Yes me. DD has a cold so been at home but temp has spiked tonight. Nearest test centre is a 2 hour drive. Honestly think its just the cold but its so difficult to know what to do. I know other families isolating for 14 days because they cant get a test. This is horrible

Yep. Eldest came home complaining of scratchy throat which got rapidly worse. Now a slight temp. Spoke to school who said stay home and get a test but I have been trying for hours and still no joy.

Can someone clarify - this means I have to keep sibling home from her school until (hopefully) negative test result? Just I heard someone complaining on the school yard today that they had been told to come in despite someone in household having a cough. Which seems wrong to me?

My dd's both sent home today with a temp (38degrees at school but 37 at home) school said to not return until tested. I have just spent the past 2 hours refreshing the government website, and have just been lucky enough to get them both tests for tomorrow only a 5 minute drive from my house - Bedfordshire area. I read that new appointments get uploaded at 8am and 8pm

Yep nearest place 72 miles away and I have been trying since 8am.

Me. Mine have got coughs. No school or work for any of us. It's probably just a cold, but who knows?

We sent a home test back on Thursday and still haven’t had results back! All symptoms have gone

Me! Poorly Dc with a temp and a cough and a sore throat. I've had to keep all 3 dc off today, DH is now working from home. I was trying to get a test booked since 6.30 this morning the only available one was in the Scottish Highlands and I'm in South Warwickshire. I rang 119 earlier and they advised to try at 8pm as the slots are released then. I managed to get a drive through test tomorrow 30 minutes away from me, my local testing centre was fully booked by 8.04! I had the form filled in online ready to submit as soon as the clock turned 8. World beating test and trace my backside.

School should not be saying that! A sniffle on its own - yes, fine to go in if the child feels well. Any of the COVID symptoms though (with or without a sniffle) and the child needs to be tested, with the entire household isolating until the results are in. The rest of the household should only be tested if they too have symptoms.

Yep, everyone in the has to stay home until you get a negative test or for 14 days.

@Ifartglitterybaubles I saw drive in and walk slots at two locations which are near ish but by the time I filled in the form they had gone. I feel so sad for DD1 as she is just starting to settle into reception.

Me - eventually ( on day 2) drove over an hour to one of the drop in drive ins where you don’t need an appointment. But they had no tests! They did have a walk i next to them that managed to get Ds tested at. As the problem is with the labs no idea how long results will take .

It’s made me feel quite depressed about the winter. Was surprisingly stressful trying to get one and now wondering with two kids how many times this is going to happen. My work isn’t happy either.

It took me through home testing but hasn't sent any confirmation email.

If the system cant cope after schools have been open for a week what hope do we have.

Yes, one of my children. I’m very suspicious. If you can’t test then it keeps the numbers down and justifies keeping everything open. Very convenient. Absolute shit show.

Some spaces came available in our region just after 10. It’s a bit of a drive away from us and I’m not looking forward to it with the toddler, especially after I’ve rammed sticks up her nose but we are going for it.

Yep, been trying for three days

@boymum9 I’m sure you’ve done this but we also looked at walking in centres. It would mean we would have to drive, park up and get out to walk through but in the end one two cities away came up.

Is there a maximum temp for testing?

I just turned up at a walk through centre on Tues, got results in 34 hrs. Area of increased concern so don't know if the labs might prioritise tests from there, although I wouldn't bet on it.
