What on earth are we going to do for GCSEs and A’levels 2021?

Assuming dc are going to have a disrupted year with inevitable periods of 14 days having to self isolate, how on earth are GCSEs and A’levels going to be fairly graded this year? Teachers surely don’t have anywhere near enough data to predict grades and some schools will likely have more episodes of coronavirus disruption than others. All this without taking into account the different standards of home learning between schools. It’s a complete mess. It’s nobody’s fault of course, but what can be done to make it fair for everyone?

It's worse in Scotland as the GCSE/A level equivalent exam courses are only a year and start in June for around 5 weeks before the summer hols. And then the kids only study until the next April before the exam diet starts. This means they've already lost a large proportion of the teaching time of the course.

They are planning to go ahead as usual with small changes such as no poetry for English GCSE - there is guidance online and they have done a consolation for it. Not much has changed, it is quite concerning.

There is some talk of them being delayed but nothing confirmed yet.

@Pixel77 that’s interesting thanks. I think ds could about cope with this but only if he has an undisrupted year 11 which is looking unlikelySad

It's definitely going to be tough. We are supposed to be doing UCAS predicted grades this term which will be tricky with the range of work they have completed over lockdown - from completed everything and attended every session in July to completed nothing and attended nothing.
