Travel insurance says claim on your credit card, credit card says claim on your travel insurance?

We were due to stay in France for ten days, but had to cancel due to the restrictions coming in. Our annual travel insurance through our bank has asked us to claim from our credit card company, but the cc Company have asked us to claim on travel insurance ?

The accommodation have refused to refund or offer a credit note.

I feel like I'm being passed around the houses.

Has anyone else experienced this?

French law is that it is currently a credit note for the hotel, valid for at least a year. They instigated it early on in lockdown.

No advice on who to claim from, I'd probably just do whichever answers the phone first unless someone more sensible than me can advise.

I'm having similar, complicated by the fact that our plane tickets might have been refunded to a now-gone-into-administration travel agent (but the airline contact centre aren't sure), and everyone is just shrugging their shoulders at us Sad

I had this, it was easier to pursue with the credit card company in the end - that the accommodation are not fulfilling their legal obligations to refund or offer a credit. And then if there are any cancellation fees you can claim them on insurance.

It was a campsite in France, I wonder if they are covered by the same French law?

But it's more the question of who I approach first??

My insurance said they would only pay if credit card says no. So asked bank and eventually got declined and insurance paid up once I had proof bank said no.

DH said we would have to pay £125 excess per person if we claimed on insurance. Went through credit card chargeback in the end.
