Coronavirus: Cases on Tui flight from Zante to Cardiff www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-53966897

So...it's now Sunday and all people on flight haven't been contacted yet or am I reading this wrong?!

OP posts:
bibbitybobbitycats · 30/08/2020 17:43

No you're not reading it wrong!

BluebellsGreenbells · 30/08/2020 17:45

Is Zante on the most anyway for 14 day quarantine? Can’t keep up!

jcyclops · 30/08/2020 17:47

Can Public Health Wales order people who live in England to self isolate, or get a test?
I'm sure Mark Drakeford and Nicola Sturgeon wouldn't be happy with Boris (through Public Health England) giving anti-coronavirus instructions to their populations.

WildSkitty · 30/08/2020 17:49

Interesting that they have chosen to release the info to the press rather than use the contact tracing system. It's probably quicker than attempting to call all 180 people on the flight though.

lifesalongsong · 30/08/2020 18:06

The positive tests might have only come back today, a public announcement is a very efficient way to contact the other passengers inst it? It says they are going to-do track and trace as well.

You posts makes it sound like you think they've done something wrong

Dadnotamum72 · 30/08/2020 18:19

Yes, have to allow a little leeway for the results to come back but 5 days after the event plus now contacting people does allow for a lot of potential spread, but not really anyone fault?

On a different note, everyone is classed as a close contact, so where does the 2 mtrs for 15 minute guidline sit, does that not count in certain circumstances, what is the definition of a close contact?

WildSkitty · 30/08/2020 18:23

My guess is that they are contacting the whole flight as there were 3 separate groups affected. It's rare for them to trace the whole flight, it's usually just the rows surrounding the cases. Also, it's possible the cases weren't able to say which rows they sat in (they may have been moved from their original seat and not known their actual seat number where they sat on the flight) and that's the reason they have decided to trace the whole flight.

Onlythepoets · 30/08/2020 18:26

The flight was on Tuesday but With the timescale I assumed they didn’t have symptoms and have only just been tested.

locked2020 · 30/08/2020 18:55

Gonna blame sleep deprivation...I hadn't factored in testing time. Blush

I think its because (as PP said) there were so many groups affected. It was also in the news that a group of 11 from Devon had tested positive for Covid upon return to the UK. Zante seems to be high risk.

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2020 20:42

I think it might be more that our 18-30 crowd poses a risk to Zante.

Northernsoullover · 30/08/2020 20:45

Also, if the flight arrived in on Tuesday they may have only started getting tested on the Weds or Thursday (depending on the time they came home) say between 24 - 36 hours for results , so you are looking at Friday/ Saturday for tracing to begin. I don't know how long it would take for them to piece it all together but with an announcement today it doesn't seem too tardy..

Flaxmeadow · 30/08/2020 20:47

I don't think its allowed to move seats now during a flight

LizzieMacQueen · 30/08/2020 22:51

I wonder if this is linked to the kids in Plymouth. I'm pretty sure that was Zante they'd been to.

Agreed. Sorry, I hadn't factored in testing time!

Zante had 1 case in the 5 days preceding the Tuesday flight. I know because I was there checking. Other parts of Greece such as Mykanos and Corfu had on average 2/3 a day. Not big numbers at all.

However there were 7 alone in Zante on Saturday.

I was on the Bristol flight a few hours after the Cardiff one. Obviously very close geographically. Wouldn't be surprised if I got a call from track and trace tomorrow if those parties on the cardiff flight also had friends on the Bristol flight.

I will say the safety measures and social distancing in the hotel and airport i stayed in were first class, far superior to the UK

WildSkitty · 01/09/2020 08:05

The problem with the numbers is that people aren't testing in resort. The numbers in Zante itself may be low, but the numbers of people returning from Zante to their country of origin and then testing is quite high.

WildSkitty · 01/09/2020 08:08

@Flaxmeadow

I don't think its allowed to move seats now during a flight

Sometimes the crew do move passengers to sit in the emergency exit rows if they aren't filled. People definitely are still getting moved from their original seat numbers.
Mindblowninbrisvegas · 01/09/2020 17:21

Can anyone advise - I have come into contact with someone who was on this flight. They initially denied being on the flight and have been in the community but have now admitted on social media that they were on the flight and have been called for testing today. If the test comes back positive will I have to self isolate? I was within 2 metres of them at all but my daughter and their daughter (aged 10) would have occasionally been within 2 metres briefly but would have Potentially passed a netball between each other. As they were clear they were not on the affected flight I didn’t pay too much attention to the children as they were at an organised sports training session.

Just a bit concerned that it could impact DD 2 first day at school.

Mindblowninbrisvegas · 01/09/2020 17:21

Sorry I was NOT within 2m at all

Delatron · 01/09/2020 20:20

Our town (not Cardiff) in SE a group of 38!! Teenagers went to Zante. On return 18 I think have tested positive. Triggering a delayed start to a school opening and sports clubs cancelled this week.
