Are your childrens external clubs (that use other school facilities) opening?

My son has two after school activities run by third parties that use the premises of other schools: scouts and one language club. The language club sent us an email last week advising fees are due and just now sent an email advising they were not able to negotiate use of the school and so will continue with online classes (very cheeky I thought after having sent an email last week requesting full fees). The Scouts club are still negotiating with the school on whether they can operate.

A real shame as my son benefited hugely from these clubs.

Anyone else finding the same? What are your clubs doing about fees where they can't provide a venue and are still sending online homework?

At the moment our trampoline club cannot operate as the school won't let them hire the hall and therefore with minimal overheads, has said they plan not to ask for subs until we return to face to face sessions. Obv it's not something that can be done online.

Our scout group has said subs are not necessary until returning to face to face meetings, even though they are running weekly Zoom meetings for the older groups and have now run them through the holidays as well. But donations in lieu of subs are welcome. They have their own hut and while it's not being used, overheads are reduced but not to zero.

No, nothing around here starting until after the October break (Scotland) at the earliest.

frozendaisy · 30/08/2020 17:39

No after school clubs at either school so far.

SavoyCabbage · 30/08/2020 17:41

Yes, my dd goes to gymnastics that's in a secondary school and it's restarting from September 3rd.

BlackberrySky · 30/08/2020 17:42

Some of ours have. One at the school that used to be mixed year groups is now single year groups separately. Cycling club pretty much back as normal, ditto external trampoline club. The one at a local secondary school on a Saturday morning is not coming back yet though.

Frazzled2207 · 30/08/2020 22:06

I run an after school activity at 10 local schools. When I contacted them all in July, 3 said I could probably start in September but with specific bubbles only. 2 Told me they hoped I could start after half term.
Radio silence from 5.
Although I’m also offering online alternatives I’m not sending anyone any invoices unless either the physical club is definitely running with a confirmed start date or the parent is def ok with the child doing online.

Ps bear in mind that the pandemic has been an absolute nightmare for our industry. Many providers will either not be able to start back up again or likely flounder in next few months unless things pick up quickly.

DC are both at secondary school (one just going into year 7). We have been told no after school clubs of any kind until after October half term at the earliest.

DD has a music group on a Saturday morning run by local music trust that is restarting from next week, with some restrictions.

Essexgirlupnorth · 30/08/2020 22:38

Rainbows are going to start Zoom meetings as haven't done anything since March and use the school hall but can't yet.

After school clubs are not running either some are done by staff and some are by outside providers.

BlackPuddingEggs · 30/08/2020 22:47

I’m a helper at an activity that uses a school and we are going back in a couple of weeks. I must say I’m really surprised the school are letting us back and not charging extra for the caretaker to come and clean again. Any extra costs would make it not viable, but the school don’t know that. We will run multiple sessions, spread out over the weekend so the groups don’t overlap, but then don’t finish until 6 pm on Sunday. The children all come from all over the place. I was very surprised to be told it was restarting.

MayFayre · 30/08/2020 23:12

Scouts will be by Zoom, as it was from March until the summer break.

Everything else is cancelled until Christmas at least.

Lobelia76 · 30/08/2020 23:23

My son’s gymnastics/parkour lessons aren’t restarting at all. Shame as it’s the only structured regular physical activity he does outside of school.

Mintjulia · 30/08/2020 23:44

Yes, both karate and swimming lessons are resuming 2nd week in September.

Both with new guidelines around changing rooms and numbers of students per group.

ILoveAnOwl · 30/08/2020 23:45

My husband's buisiness runs out of a school and we can't reopen as they're not letting to external hirers.

LittleDoritt · 31/08/2020 01:33

Our gymnastics and dance is back to normal but our swimming pool is closed for the foreseeable future.

Legoandloldolls · 31/08/2020 01:44

I haven't heard yet from scouts, rainbows and beavers.

The school wrap around care is on dodgy ground and all of my dd clubs at school are on hold until October.

My other son did a theatre club which was externally run but it's been so long of lazing about he doesnt do any clubs any more. He is turning 13 soon.

I think I'm only going to hang out for rainbows and Cubs and just stop all the other clubs until things settle down. I want my dd to start gymnastics but it just seems like a total headache right now with covid

Newdaynewname1 · 31/08/2020 05:20

Scouts will run outside until half term, afterwards probably zoom based again .
Swimming will run in smaller group, and without changing.

Newdaynewname1 · 31/08/2020 05:22

(scouts/beavers are avoiding school facilities by going to the local common, swimming is in a school pool in thr weekend)
