Coronavirus Conspiracies - can you give me a quick breakdown?

I’m meeting a relative tomorrow who’s been sending me links to various videos and articles for the last few months. I looked at the first couple and decided that there just weren’t enough minutes in my life to waste. I don’t want to go googling either.

I was hoping someone might be able to give me the gist of the major conspiracies. I know 5G is something about phone masts, and that Bill Gates either created the virus or is micro chipping us all for reasons I haven’t yet grasped. Are there any other major ones floating round?

This person is quite vulnerable and I want to be kind, but not say something to unintentionally feed the paranoia.

Well Id not bother going tbh because clearly you think she is unhinged so what’s the point?

You or I don’t know the effects of 5G, Bill Gates IS heavily involved in COVID vaccinations and will earn billions out of it. Any quick google will tell you he is. He is even funding the U.K. Oxford trials. It’s not hard to see why people keep linking him to it. True or false!

It’s her opinion. You don’t have agree. Would she really be your ‘friend’ if she knew you was chatting shit about her on a public platform?

My friends husband is a wealthy business man. He is a flat earther. Doesn’t believe dinosaurs exist. Do I believe it. No. Still think he is interesting and don’t talk shit about him.

You could just address why people turn to CTs. CTs give folk an impression that someone is in charge, that the world isn't chaotic, that someone did wrong but will get justice (eventually). We can't change the desire to believe all that, but we can give ourselves better skills to deal with uncertainties. So chat to your relative about what support they need to get on with their lives successfully and with fewer worries than they have now.

OR you could not be a patronising arse hole and change the subject,

I don’t understand why so many people have it in for Bill Gates. He has donated billions of dollars from his fortune to medical charities including vaccine research. I can’t see anything that says he will make billions from the Oxford vaccine. He has given money via his foundation and other charities he funds to fund the trials but unless I’ve missed something that doesn’t mean he’s going to make money from it.

yeOldeTrout · 26/08/2020 22:49

Byallmeans, stop talking about yourself.

Treesofwood · 26/08/2020 22:54

If you believe that people in power don't plan in secret (conspire) against those they have power over then you are deluded.
Plenty of theories are proved true. That's the point of a theory, to explore it, test it etc.
For example, the use of chemtrails are a "conspiracy theory" A little bit of research and it's clear that planes have sprayed agents in unsuspecting populations. No question.

Off topic I know, but a good example of why we shouldn't dismiss things as conspiracy theories and madness. It suits those in power, politically, financially for people to dismiss things out of hand.

Yes you have missed something. Do you really think business men do anything for free? Of course he will make billions from vaccines. Pharmaceutical companies do!

Doesn’t mean I think he caused the virus!

Eng123 · 26/08/2020 23:11

Oh dear foil hats all round tonight. Goodness 5G is not some difficult to understand technology or nebulous concept! Its merely a radiated RF signal. The effects of RF on the body and how RF propagates is very well understood. So YOU may not know the effects but I do @Byallmeans!
The main conspiracies are those you outlined: it's fake, its covering up some terrible secret, it's being used to control or make money... delete as necessary.
I would just say that you have spoken with Bill on your 5G phone and he has assured you that all microchips will come with a £5 discount on Microsoft products and that the Davos group are listening to all of our thoughts/concerns and will be delivering happy thoughts to all whilst routing out negative thinkers... and smile.

Eng123 · 26/08/2020 23:14

Oh and watch out for the fifth column... its next the the 4th but the sign says 3rd! Smile

Cornettoninja · 26/08/2020 23:19

Some conspiracies have been proven true, some have been partially true but an awful lot are just bollocks.

@thelegohooverer I’m not really sure how you can reign it in for anyone tbh. Corona is divisive in a lot of areas right now and people seem very keen to pick a side and stay there no matter what. It’s already evident on this thread how immediately spiky and defensive people can become if you’re not on the same wavelength.

It’s probably best to completely avoid it at all if you can and lay your boundaries down down from the outset. Tell your relative the subject of corona virus is off limits and you need to talk about something else. Maybe refresh your knowledge on other subjects you know they’re interested in so you have a few topics to lead them with.

JS87 · 26/08/2020 23:20

Actually I think he does do stuff for free. He’s made billions and has decided to use some of it for philanthropy. His foundation is a charity. Lots of charities fund research and don’t make money from the research.

Cornettoninja · 26/08/2020 23:23

Oh and Bill Gates is already worth over one hundred billion dollars. Whatever people might think he’s planning he can already afford to do.

thelegohooverer · 26/08/2020 23:33

@Cornettoninja that’s very sound advice. Thank you.

Don't forget to add in David Icke and the shape-shifting reptile illuminati who apparently are in control of everything! We are all heading towards a future of being mind-controlled (probably something to do with 5G and microchips) and world domination by the afore-mentioned lizards.

Coronavirus is either completely fake or it's genetically engineered and deliberately released so this mind control can happen via microchipping (via vaccine) which is of course where the evil Bill Gates comes in.

I suspect you won't be able to reason with your relative, especially if they start telling you to 'wake up' and 'take the red pill'. You may also want to laugh involuntarily at some of it (the Queen is a lizard), so do try not to. Also, these reptilians aren't particularly nice and enjoy a human for dinner, especially children.

It's a rabbit warren and not really something you want to fill your mind with.

SilkCashmere · 27/08/2020 08:10

Bill should know it would make a huge difference to vaccine uptake rates if he stopped meddling in shaping the world and take up golf instead. Stubborn meddling billionaire and stubborn sceptics of his agenda means reduced vaccine uptake, one man minding his own business could make a big impact.

Considering Musk wants to pop chips in brains and Gates advocates population control, it's not that outlandish to understand why people have concern around these men.
