Anyone still going to country on quarantine list?

Booked a holiday in February to Croatia in September. Not going to a hotspot. We are considering ignoring government advice and going anyway.

We could quarantine when we get back. Valid travel insurance is available.

Has anyone done this or thinking about it?

We went to Portugal when it was still on the quarantine list. We stayed in a quiet area in a villa so were fairly socially distanced when we were there. We had a wonderful time and it was worth every minute of the quarantine period. If you have insurance and can isolae on return then I would absolutley go.

@WhisperGold We're off to Greece soon (obviously I know it's not on the quarantine list yet but watching numbers closely...) Like you we have valid travel insurance and we can easily quarantine when we get back so we're going. Like @usernotfound0000 we intend to be as socially distanced as possible while we're there. I can't wait!

I would check what Croatia did earlier in the year when numbers rose. I think we forget that some countries actually closed borders so tourists couldn’t leave. Also read the small print of the travel insurance To check what happens on all eventualities which I’m sure you have.

Currently in quarantine having returned from Spain. Check insurance. Ours covered all but travel disruption. Had a great time. Masks worn everywhere! It was quieter than normal. Our beaches were much emptier than the uk. We were in a low numbers area!

Going to the Canary Islands in September, more than happy to follow rules regarding masks and will quarantine on return. Staying in a private villa.

Would be interesting to know what the travel insurance will cover if all flights back were suddenly cancelled. Guess it’s a risk people are prepared to take

NothingIsWrong · 21/08/2020 10:45

I'm not because we have no money or annual leave available, but I would in a heartbeat. My super lucky colleague is due back from Portugal tomorrow and is extremely happy right now!

@AishaBed I think that very much depends on where you go, and it is obviously important to do your research on the local area. Where we went in Portugal had very low cases, the quarantine restrictions were due to an increase in Lisbon. Weighing up the risks, the chance of all flights being cancelled from all airports there due to a very small number of cases was most unlikely.

sm40 · 21/08/2020 12:03

We wouldn't have been covered if flight were cancelled. However we were prepared to fly via somewhere else if need be and would have needed to pay. We got there and back fine. Planes 1/4-1/2 full.

We also flew BA. Both our flights were cancelled. But really easy to change as many flights. Maybe would have been more cautious if only 1 flight a day from an airline.

Friend of mine flew out to Spain yesterday. Tenerife so low cases locally but she works from home so can easily quarantine when she gets back. Only she is going and she lives with family (who wont have to quarantine) so no issues with being able to get hold of food etc.

Campervan69 · 21/08/2020 18:58

We are in Portugal at the moment having a wonderful holiday. We're prepared to quarantine when we got back but are very lucky indeed that we don't have to. Feels very safe. Everyone observing mask wearing in public places, hand sanitiser everywhere and social distancing being observed.

WhisperGold · 21/08/2020 19:38

Thanks for the comments. There was a perception that country going onto quarantine list meant that holidays there were off.

I doubt that borders will close, don't think we're going back to March levels.
