Our local paper is carrying the news that all local commemorations are cancelled. The decision was made by The British Legion.
It's emerged today that there will be no poppy sellers in the streets in the lead up either, so they are going to lose a lot of money. It's been questioned but it's not allowed even if they wear masks.
There's been a bit of upset in the local forums but most people understand. It takes a lot of organising so the decision had to be made now. A few have said they'll go to the memorials anyway.
Pantos have been cancelled, schools say they may not be able to open fully, visitor attractions demand pre-booking and are only partially open, weddings and funerals still limited in numbers for the foreseeable future.
We are miles and miles away from being "back to normal". And we'll stay that way until people are serious about preventing the spread of infection. It's so dispiriting to see the advice being ignored.
At this rate it won't be over by next Christmas.
