So what would be the risks, do you think? I heard about this (and they want the vulnerable and elderly) but I need to find out a bit aboutit.

herecomesthsun · 17/08/2020 13:28

From their website: Common vaccine side effects include soreness, swelling and redness at the site of the vaccination. You may also get more general symptoms like tiredness, aching muscles and a high temperature. These may last for a few days and usually get better by themselves.

Also they say it's safe; I will sign up for the pre-vaccine chat!

Motorina · 17/08/2020 13:29

Before you participated in any trial, you would be given full information on any risks specific to that trial (that's the law). But I would say that the risks at this stage of significant harm are very very low - current trials are looking at efficacy not safety, which has already been established - although risks of things like soreness at the vaccination site will obviously be much higher.

(I've signed up.)

Realitea · 17/08/2020 16:27

I signed up a couple of weeks ago. Why not!

AnnieP1 · 17/08/2020 16:37

Tried to sign up. Reached stage where they send an email for you to confirm it is the correct email address. However have now waited for over half an hour but no email received (nothing in spam folder either) so unable to continue. May try again later!

Wodden · 17/08/2020 16:38

Does anyone have a link to sign up?

Smileyoriley · 17/08/2020 16:44

I’ve had the same problem Annie! I also registered interest on the Zoe app a while ago but heard nothing back

Redolent · 17/08/2020 17:07

They’re especially keen to get BAME volunteers (only 3% so far). Have signed up.

MarcelineMissouri · 17/08/2020 17:55

@AnnieP1 mine didn’t come through until the next day!

@MarcelineMissouri that’s great thank you

Cloudburstagain · 17/08/2020 18:19

Are they accepting people who were on the shielding list does anyone know?

get657 · 17/08/2020 19:02

I have tried to sign up but waiting for the email to come through! I have asthma and a heart condition so not sure if I will be able to do it!

tobee · 17/08/2020 20:34

Same here!

thecatsatonthewall · 17/08/2020 20:45

Not a chance.

But i have signed up for the Plasma trials as i have a feeling i may have had CV earlier in the year.

Lemons1571 · 17/08/2020 20:45

I’m put off by the thought that the trial is 6-12 months. If they roll out the first vaccine in say 4 months time, I’m going to have to wait until my trial is finished which could be next autumn. Obviously I might have to wait anyway, but I suspect I’m in the vulnerable group and stand a chance of being a bit higher priority.

Also I did try and sign up for the Oxford one a few months ago, but they wanted people likely to catch it (HCP, NHS etc) and I wfh. I couldn’t afford the time to go and be a “reserve”.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/08/2020 20:50

(surprisingly) I’ve tested positive for antibodies which I think rules me out of the vaccine trails. I’ve offered to donate plasma instead!

ThatDamnScientist · 17/08/2020 20:52

I signed up a couple of weeks ago, not sure I would be chosen though. I have asthma (only mild, get the free flu jab) and so not sure if I would ever get selected but if I was selected I would definitely participate, I really do hope this vaccine (or any of the other contenders) makes it and is rolled out fully.

FurForksSake · 17/08/2020 20:54

Signed up ages ago for this, but haven't been contacted about anything. Not in the right area geographically, it would seem.

CousinKrispy · 18/08/2020 18:53

I've signed up!

Yetiyoga · 18/08/2020 23:15

I've just signed up but I don't think I will be contacted. I am not in any vulnerable groups and I suspect they want people in these groups now. Happy to help if they do contact me though!

RaspberryRuff · 18/08/2020 23:20

I was going to but given I don’t have that much exposure to the virus I don’t think I am an ideal candidate, I think they were looking for front line workers. Also I’m starting a new job and can’t really ask for the time off for follow up appts. Other than that I would though

EvilPea · 18/08/2020 23:26

I signed up on the Zoe app ages ago. But haven’t heard anything. I’m assuming I’m not who they want at the moment.

I am someone who gets every side effect / extreme reaction going. So I can’t work out if that makes me a good candidate or a terrible one
