Anyone tested positive for corona virus with just a loss of taste as metallic taste

I started off tired Friday with a metallic taste.wondered if my previous tooth infection had returned however when I tried out a bag of chilli crisps that I normally can't eat I couldn't taste them just felt warmth but no flavour.
I didn't want to make a fuss as I was due at work today.Still black coffee tastes like hot water so I informed work and ordered a home test.
The skin at the top of my chest feels like it is burning weirdly and I feel a little achy and my ears feel like popping apart from that I do feel guilty for self isolating even though it is the right thing to do and I do have colleagues who live with v vulnerable people.
Anyone just had these symptoms and a positive result?

Hmm ^

I lost my sense of smell and I'm telling you it would have been so easy to ignore I'm I'm honest.

I didn't though and got tested which was negative. That's the only symptom I got and then it turned into a cold.

You're being responsible. It's sucks a lot but what else can you do? Hope you're on the mend soon.

Thanks. It does feel like an over reaction when normally we don't take sick leave in my profession.

It does because usually we would just shrug it off as irritating and get on with it. These days we can't take the risk.

Watch out for when it comes back though. It's a bit overwhelming for a day or so.

You're absolutely doing the right thing, well done and I hope you're OK!

TheDrsDocMartens · 15/08/2020 14:12

Not pregnant? Metallic taste often comes with that.

I never had a test.

I did have usual symptoms but part of that was metallic taste.

Loss of smell wasn't even an advertised symptom until the first day I got out of bed!

You are doing the right thing.

Tests come back quickly. If it's negative you can move on!

A friend of mine felt a bit strange and then lost sense of smell and taste after someone on her course had it. This was before widespread testing, but she has recently tested positive to antibodies.

@whatisforteamum I'm convinced DH & I both had covid in February. I had a swollen sore tongue and metallic taste in my mouth for well over a week. We both had sore eyes/conjunctivitis and DH had sore throat and lost his voice. He's on a lot of asthma meds that help him fight chest infections. He didn't get a cough. We're both still feeling drained and exhausted months later. We havent been tested.

Oh that is interesting. My eyes were stinging the other evening!.I also had a prickly heat rash on my arm for a while but put it down to the heatwave and rushing in a hot kitchen.
A young colleague told me his only symptom was loss of smell. He couldn't smell his own poo.Charming.😂

Friend of dds (working abroad) lost his sense of taste and smell for a few days. Otherwise he was perfectly fine. Didn’t even enter his head he could have Corona (this was in February) and was working when work brought in a nurse to test all members of staff.
As soon as the test results came through he was sent home and told to isolate for 14 days. Apart from the taste and smell issues who were only for a couple of days he had absolutely no symptoms

whatisforteamum · 15/08/2020 16:20

I guess that is that is why they say asymptomatic cases as the symptoms we would normally disregard as they don't make us too unwell to function are possibly responsible for corona virus.

Yes I know someone who tested positive for antibodies on a private test and only clicked about loss of taste retrospectively. No other symptoms.

whatisforteamum · 15/08/2020 21:35

I guess I will just have to wait and see then.

A colleague of mine (NHS, hospital) tested positive with loss of smell and taste being the only symptom. Felt absolutely fine otherwise.

RaspberryRuff · 16/08/2020 00:52

It’s a change in taste or smell isn’t it so you’ve done the right thing

Hope you get a negative result and get well soon!

I feel guilty. To my colleagues and dh.TBH my boss just gave me a scant reply and DM almost poo pooed the idea and suggested sinus trouble.
I feel I can't go on the pub and spread anything to customers and like I say potentially very vulnerable colleagues. We have to compete a survey each day and one question is the taste and smell one in the last ten days.
I should find out tue/ Thursday anyway.

That's what I mean. It's one of those things that is so easy to ignore. How many people are I wonder..?

Burning skin and a rash are symptoms of Covid. I would get a test.

whatisforteamum · 16/08/2020 15:02
