Home tests - how long from posting to results?

I did the test and posted it on Wednesday at 2pm. The tracking showed it was delivered at midnight.

Just wondering how long I can expect to wait according to others' experience?

Maybe I should've gone to the test centre

Ours were really quick! Posted on Saturday at 12pm (last collection was 12.15) and results Monday 11am.

morefun · 15/08/2020 15:58

Looks like nobody knows.

I only did the test because I had a temperature and now my children can't go to their dad, or to the childminder, we can't go and buy some food 🙁 I thought the results would come through within two days as stated in the booklet.

@morefun this might sound obvious.. but did you register for results? My husband did a postal test and it got to 3-4 days with no results so he looked at the instructions again and realised he should have registered for them! Luckily he managed to register it and then got the results within 5-10 mins after registering!

morefun · 15/08/2020 18:19

Yeah, I did that before I took the test. When I called this morning they said they have my test but call staff can't see the results 🙁 ... so just waiting here

I posted Monday morning, got results late afternoon/early evening Tuesday.

Mummymonika · 15/08/2020 20:52

I posted mine on Wednesday at 4pm and got the result today at 1pm

raviolidreaming · 15/08/2020 21:09

I posted mine 5pm on Tuesday and didn't get the results until 12:20 on Friday.

Maryann1975 · 15/08/2020 23:48

I posted a test on Thursday, post picked up at 5pm and it was in the box at 4 as requested. I’m still waiting for the results. Both times I did a test Previously, I got the results within 24 hours, so I think having to wait this long is not good enough. They seem to be taking longer to process tests, which does not fill me with confidence for September when schools and childcare go back properly and the increase of tests that will bring.

I’ve only had the test because the study I’m part of asked me to because of a ‘symptom’ I’ve recorded on the tracker. I had a headache, so not a ‘proper’ symptom of covid, so I’m not isolating, but if I were, I’d be quite annoyed at how long the results were taking to come back.

MrsP2015 · 16/08/2020 09:28

Thank god you have the sense to isolate while waiting as I'm sure some wouldn't!

We sent ours last Tuesday at 8.30am and then registered Tuesday night.

Results for oh came back Thursday morning mine Thursday late afternoon like 6pm!

Thankfully both negative.

I expect you'll hear tomorrow.

ElectiveAffinities · 16/08/2020 09:39

Mine was pretty quick OP. They picked up at 11am on a Thursday and the result was texted back at midnight on Friday. I'd registered beforehand as per the instructions. But this was when they were picked up by a courier rather than posted by the user, so maybe a bit speedier?

I've also done a drive-through test (I'm on the Zoe Covid app and they send you for a test if you report any symptoms at all, not just the recognised ones - same as MaryAnn by the sounds of it - so you tend to have a few tests!) and the result was similarly quick. Both negative.

Hope yours comes through soon.

morefun · 16/08/2020 14:40

Thanks everyone. Still waiting here... used Prime Now to get some wine and ingredients for a roast Grin Hope the results come through soon to get my three year old off to his dad - he's been crying and saying that he misses him.

My results came back at about 2 this afternoon. So posted on Thursday, that’s nearly 3 days. I ordered the test on Wednesday morning. I am extremely concerned for working families in September, who need tests back ASAP so they can send dc back to childcare/education and get back to work. Not only is it disruptive to education and routine to be out that long, but employers are not going to be jumping for joy at loosing staff for nearly a week every time an employees child gets a temperature.

I agree with this, we don't have a car in our household so we would have to rely on postal tests.

I actually wondered if it would be more efficient to have a Covid testing van that would do its rounds testing people if they came and stood at the doorstep.. not sure if it's very practical but feel postal tests take too long for results.

morefun · 17/08/2020 11:02

Update: still no results and call centre said it's likely they have lost my test or have been unable to marry up the test with my details (it was registered beforehand and I gave both phone number and email address).

They have suggested I do another one. So that's a week now I've had to try to work from home with kids here, they haven't seen their dad or been allowed out, we have hardly any food, and it's my 40th birthday this week Angry

It's bullshit.

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/08/2020 18:24

@morefun that's shit Sad sorry they can't give you your results. I really hope they can improve the home testing.

Hope you manage to have a good birthday Thanks or at least get lots of cake delivered and have a belated celebration when you're out of isolation.

morefun · 17/08/2020 18:41

Thanks covetingthepreciousthings - I'm such a whinger! Hopefully results will be through soon. And I will update for anyone else who is wondering about results

Ok, I have an update:

Test one, home test taken Wednesday 12 Aug: still no results, call centre presume lost

Test two, drive through taken Monday 17 Aug: results received after 36 hours at 1am (negative)

OP posts:
covetingthepreciousthings · 19/08/2020 11:39

@morefun glad you finally got some results!

LilOldMe · 19/08/2020 11:48

My DS was chosen for a random test. It was collected on a Monday afternoon and we didn't get the results till at least the weekend, or the following Monday.

morefun · 21/08/2020 18:10

Oh, and another update - glad I went and did the drive through, as STILL no home results from test posted on 12th. Shoddy

onlinelinda · 23/08/2020 07:13

You might have been negative after 5 days anyway.
