Can someone explain the self-quarantine rules after travel?

I have come to the Netherlands with my 2 children to visit my family with the understanding and acceptance that quarantine might be imposed on our return as has now happened.

The children will be back in time to finish quarantine before their school starts and I can work from home so this is not a problem.

However my husband did not come with us and has stayed in the UK. He is self-employed and works outside without any close contact with other people. We cannot seem to find in the guidance if he would be allowed to continue working while the children and I self-quarantine for 14 days.

There is lots of information about isolating as a household where anyone has symptoms but assuming none of us has symptoms (we are in an area with very few cases and staying at my parents' house) we will complete our 14 days to follow the rules as we have done right from the start of lockdown but will he need to self-isolate as well?
Obviously it would be better for us financially if he could work but we had accepted the risk and will follow the rules whatever they are.

I would be grateful if anyone had a link with a clear answer.

I think only you and your DC need to isolate (and completely isolate meaning not leaving the house even for walks) but your DH who didn’t go doesn’t need to unless he gets symptoms or you test positive.

Just here to say sorry you have to quarantine, it sucks doesn't it. This Netherlands quarantine makes total sense considering there's 38 corona-related hospital admissions in the whole country.

This section on within your accommodation is helpful. Your husband doesn't need to isolate unless you get symptoms. You should try and isolate from him in the house as much as possible on your return.

@Raccoonworld thank you that is my understanding too. All the info for different situations gets confusing and I want to make sure we are following the rules.

@mightybuzz thanks yes it sucks but we made a conscious decision to come anyway because I really needed some time with my family after a difficult lockdown. Amongst other worries my grandfather passed away at Easter and of course I couldn't travel here for his funeral then. To be honest it has been lovely and the children have been having a great time with their grandparents as well.

@MoanaIsNotAPrincess I've just come back myself to see family as well. We're due to go in early September, I might still do so anyway if the Netherlands don't retaliate with a quarantine for UK visitors. I know cases are rising in the Netherlands but it's still absolutely negligible as compared to here, I think it's a ridiculous decision by the UK gov. I'd be safer in the Netherlands than here.

@Flagsfiend thank you so much that's exactly the information I need! I think I missed it because it says 'accommodation' so it seemed to be for visitors to the UK but then actually clarifies that it can be our own home so that's brilliant.

@mightybuzz I hope you had a lovely time and that you'll be able to come again in September. We weren't due to come until next week and return right before school started but I saw the signs and brought it forward. We have travelled by car and boat so absolute minimal contact with anyone even during the journey and as you say it's ridiculous but we'll stick to the rules like we have done from the start.

Does anyone know if you need to quarantine if you have just caught a connecting flight in one of the countries between 2 exempt countries?

Yes you do, it’s called a transit stop. Presumably new people from the banned country have joined the flight?

You’re ok if you’ve just driven through eg France but not got out of the car. One you’ve mixed with people from the banned country you have to quarantine.
