Face too small for adult masks?

I am back in work next week and was hoping to find a reusable mask to wear. Unfortunatley they appear to be too big for my face! I have looked at those that have size options but they are not the 3 layer onces which I really would prefer. Can anyone recommend any?

Have you looked on Etsy? I would think that the sellers would make one in a custom size for you. Quite a few sellers seem to have size options too.

They may make them but I don't think they are medically any better than wrapping a scarf round your face are they? Most online are just made to meet the guidelines of masks in shops although most of them aren't particularly effective.
Social distancing is going to be almost impossible when I go back into work so I would rather have a proper mask.

If you buy surgical masks that tie on, you can adjust them to your head size. (Not the ones with ear loops; you tie them on the back of the head and around the throat).

Teacher12345 · 13/08/2020 20:48

I don't think they are reusable though are they @Chochito?

Can you sew at all op? I make 3 different styles of mask in various sizes. They are all 3 or 4 layers.

APipkinOfPepper · 13/08/2020 21:01

These ones have a small adult size which I have ordered for my secondary school aged child, but they aren’t cheap and take a while to ship/arrive www.vistaprint.co.uk/masks/all/adults/

Teacher12345 · 13/08/2020 21:02

I can't sew no. Just been watching a video and I can make them fit by adding a length adjuster on the loops apparently. Any idea whare I could find those? Then most masks will fit my face.

They look fantastic @APipkinOfPepper

I'm really small and I've found that with masks with elastic to go over the ears I can get them to fit by shortening the elastic.

Teacher12345 · 13/08/2020 21:11

How do you shorten it? Just tie a knot?

OP posts:
PetCheetah · 13/08/2020 21:14

Yes, I just tie a knot.

Teacher12345 · 13/08/2020 21:19

genius! you just saved me a fortune in trying loads of masks! thank you

I’ve also got the Vistaprint ones (in adult size for me, in child size for dd) and I can highly recommend them. They are three layer (if you use the filter they provide) and washable (including the filter, though I suspect you’re not meant to). They said they’d take weeks to arrive, but it was actually under a week.

PetCheetah · 13/08/2020 21:23

That's great, glad it's worked for you too.

Clymene · 13/08/2020 21:25

We also have vistaprint ones. They're v good

NotHotPot · 13/08/2020 21:26

Actually OP, maybe you’ll be OK with shortening the elastic. The thing that works on the vistaprint ones is that you can shorten the elastic. But they also have a notch for the chin, and a wire for the nose - if the gap between the two is too big for you, I suspect you might still have a problem, especially if you wear glasses.

Teacher12345 · 13/08/2020 22:06

It feels nice and snug with the elastic ties. I don't wear glasses so not a problem their.

there!

You can also try crossing the elastic in front of your ear as another way of shortening it.

Splodgetastic · 13/08/2020 22:12

Make like DH and buy a child mask by mistake “because I liked the fox design on it”...

tinytemper66 · 13/08/2020 22:14

I bought child size masks from etsy but the elastic was too tight. The way it was made means I can't change the elastic.
