Defo taxi for me

If you can travel out of rush hour, the tube isn’t too bad. Bring hand sanitiser and of course a mask. It’s still much quieter than usual.

Silly question sorry but could you walk there?

I have seen taxis with plastic screens between front and back which looked ok. On the other hand it is also possible to socially distance on the tube - at least the times I have taken it. Signs everywhere and hand sanitizer at some stations. About 95% are wearing masks I would say.

Would hiring a car and parking it somewhere be an option?

The doors open automatically of course so as long as you don’t grab handrails on escalators or have to hang on to the pole, you can do it without touching anything.

Taxi! But I do that in normal times anyway..

UncomfortableSilence · 08/08/2020 19:24

Taxi, I drove in last week but traffic was much heavier than I expected.

Although I went on the District Line the other week and it was empty, I felt completely safe but I'm not high risk.

lilyfire · 08/08/2020 19:25

I went on the tube yesterday for first time since March. It felt ok. Really empty even at 5pm compared to normal. Pretty much everyone wearing masks. Room to sit away from people. Easier to distance than a supermarket. I used sanitiser quite a lot.

AuntieEmm · 08/08/2020 19:32

Where are you travelling from? Could you use a black cab, they all have partitions, the drivers adress over 2m away and they are cleaned after each customer. I would have thought if you are high risk that this would be your safest option.

For Covid reasons I have avoided TfL all together but I understand from neighbours (we are central London) that the Tube is still running with excess capacity and of course some people taking their masks off or wearing them as chin protectors occasionally for some unknown reason.

It depends on your journey, whether you need to change lines or travel via a major connecting hub etc. Technically although a long time seasoned commuter I rarely sit unless really tired or traveling great distance. The interior of the carriages and the stations and tunnels as we are all know are never ever properly cleaned historically. I am not sure if superficial efforts are made due to Covid as even if you don't catch Covid it tends to be a perfect incubator and transfer station for all other germs anyway. Then again I am sure the average Londoner is immune to TfL germs already. As other posters have rightly suggested do ensure you are masked up and carry hand sanitiser. Next week onwards ie from this Monday may see the actual return of some more regular commuters who so far has apparently stayed away or staggered their journeys as in normal times it is an absolute crush if traveling via major hubs in the network as you would expect.

Taxi are I guess cleaner (marginally) but I doubt all cabbies are all diligently scrubbing their cab interiors after each fare with industrial strength anti viral surgical spirit and a special LED UV inspection lamp etc. This is London and it's no Singapore or Switzerland as everything is old (apart from new cabs and some rolling stock) so cleanliness is not its forte. You will know what I mean when you return from most overseas holidays as first thing you will note at Heathrow Underground is how old and dirty everything is!

Welcome to London and stay safe so remember - hands, face , space!

Thanks everyone ! I will take the black cab for sure .

I'd say tube - easier to avoid touching and so on.
