BA - lots of job losses and pay cuts

AIBU really -

Have the Directors etc considered cutting their pay by say, 50%, thus needing to cut the much lower paid staff wages as much as they are intending to at the moment? Their statement waffles on about difficult decisions and all that stuff, but I would have thought that cutting their own wages by a significant amount would do more good than what they have suggested.

I take your point but they're being made redundant because there's no work for them to do. Cutting the directors remuneration isn't going to change that; it just postpones the inevitable.

I should add that in relation to the people taking pay cuts, you've probably got a point. Sharing the load and all that.

I agree OP.
This isn't related to BA, but I can't believe that The House of Lords has over 800 members. I looked up the expenses they claim and most take £3000-£6500 per month. The higher figure of £6500 is typical of someone attending for 18 days and getting a train from Cambridge.
This country is bonkers with how it pays the rich to get richer.

Diana, it is isn't it? I think that the last 10-15 years have shown that the trickle down effect doesn't work.

Reducing directors' renumeration might be a start, yes they should be required to share the pain, but I'm not sure many people (including some MPs ) have realised just how much s**t the UK aviation industry is in.

Gatwick is down to one Terminal running at a reduced level, Heathrow similar.. it has two out of it's four operational Terminals up and running at the moment, again at reduced flow - I suspect if you could get past the locked doors you'll find tumbleweed blowing around T4.....

and yet despite the above there's still talk from some of this being a short term drop in demand and that all jobs and all T&Cs could be saved by short term fixes...

Funny that worldwide were not fussed about mixed fleet's poorer pay and t&c's over the years......

Well - BA exes and directors are paid a total of around £10m, according to the annual report.

Which would go precisely no-where towards saving anyone's jobs, even if they gave it all up. It would pay for 333 people at £30k a year.

The problem is, as a PP said - the situation is dire. Heathrow's passenger numbers dropped 96% in Q2. Estimate is 2020 will be 60% lower than 2021 (And that's optimistic).

CEO Alex Cruz has taken a 2 month pay cut apparently, and Willie Walsh 20%.
