Question for shielders - what happens if you say yes when companies ask this question?

I realise shielding is pausing now, but I’ve been wondering about this.

We’ve had a few companies visit the house lately eg broadband repair, furniture delivery. Each time, someone has rung before and asked (among other things) is anyone in the house shielding / very vulnerable.

What happens if you say yes? Does it mean they can’t / won’t come? Would it have meant being left without working broadband?

I’ve been wondering for a while and it’s a bit more of a personal concern as I’ve just been referred for an urgent / 2ww appointment and I’m worrying about lots of random practical things at the moment as that helps me.

They take more care to give you space, in my experience

They still come. My dad is in the shield group but had some boiler work and an oven repair. They asked him to sit in the garden while they were there then cleaned after themselves.
