If it’s like this now, what will it be like in winter?

Seriously starting to panic now. I thought the summer would keep it at bay somewhat, the sunshine etc.

I'm praying for a mild winter and getting the kids used to being out playing in the rain at every chance

Illusionordelusion · 31/07/2020 14:00

It’s going to be chaotic, and generally quite grim I think.

crosseyedMary · 31/07/2020 14:01

The cold weather could shift the virus into a cold preferring form which is more inclined to colonise superficial areas of the body so it could get better

AriettyHomily · 31/07/2020 14:01

I think it's going to be a long grim haul.

Bakedbeanhead · 31/07/2020 14:03

I am trying to be upbeat, but to be honest I am dreading Winter. I agree I think it’s going to be a long slog.
Just enjoying the sunshine whilst I can x

It has been kept at bay? If you thought it would disappear then I can see why you’re disappointed but there are a lot less new cases than before.

Winter will be crap but then winter is always crap. I spend every winter counting down til Spring. Hopefully if people aren’t going out and get vaccines flu won’t be so bad.

covetingthepreciousthings · 31/07/2020 14:09

I'm expecting it to be totally grim.. and then at least I'm not disappointed if it is, and anything above that is a bonus.. Sad

WanderingMilly · 31/07/2020 14:20

Winter may well be better. If we're all distancing and wearing masks we may get far, far fewer ordinary coughs and colds passed around than we normally do for a start.....

And I love the winter, at least it will be nice and cold unlike the heatwave of today which is hell on earth!

Valleydad99 · 31/07/2020 14:25

I think this winter will be grim. Literally the grimmest winter since 1979. Local lockdowns, people supposed to be off sick for 14 days with a temperature and no dashing into shops through the rain.

The only think that keeps me going is a belief it will eventually end. WW1 killed 6000 men a day but it ended. The depression lasted 10 years, but it ended. The black death killed half of Europe, but it ended.

Nothing is permanent - all things must end in time. It's horrible for everyone living through it but there will be an end eventually. I stand by the Queen - we will be with our friends again, we will meet again.

Blueraincoatyellowraincoat · 31/07/2020 14:32

I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that winter will be better.

I admire people who can be so optimistic but really? Winter flu plus inside schooling, work, leisure - it’s going to be so much worse.

Quackersandcheese3 · 31/07/2020 14:35

I think I’ve just been stuck in the here and now for last few month but have started to look forward now and I admit I’m concerned. Do you guys think there will be lockdown type situation again ?

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 31/07/2020 14:36

Not criticising this thread at all, because I know there's a lot of fear and people need to express that but there might well be vulnerable people reading this who feel hopeless and who need to read something positive too. I know when I'm in a spiral I read these threads (I can't stop myself) and get very very low and have a lot of bleak thoughts.

Anyway -

We are massively upping testing - that is going to help limit spread. The more you can test, the more you can get anyone infected out of circulation quickly

Far fewer people who get the virus seriously are now dying - that's backed up by hard data. We know how to treat people that little bit better. We have more treatment options and that will change with each passing month.

The vaccine trials are coming along really well. People are working really hard to give us options.

So far the rise in cases hasn't corresponded to a rise in deaths - here or in Spain where things have been rising for quite some time. I know that's no guarantee deaths won't rise in the coming weeks but just this minute they aren't and nor are admissions to ITU etc.

There will be an end to all this. Even if winter is tough, there is a life and lots of joy on the other side of this pandemic. No pandemic lasts forever, it really doesn't. Humanity is very tough, really.

niceupthedance · 31/07/2020 14:39

Less norovirus 👍

Blueraincoatyellowraincoat · 31/07/2020 14:47

Thank you @TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair Flowers

We need to cross our fingers that the weather is mild. No Beast from The East, floods etc to disrupt things

Tell that to people who live in Texas

I needed to read this that it will end
PicsInRed · 31/07/2020 20:57

That reminds me, I really need to get that massive hooded coat, golf umbrella and wellies for the winter supermarket queuing...

Delightful times ahead.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 31/07/2020 21:23

And Brexit to make it so much betterConfused

KenDodd · 31/07/2020 21:30

I think we'll have a vaccine by winter Smile

Brexit will be shit though and that's self inflicted.

tootyfruitypickle · 31/07/2020 21:38

Each month brings science one step closer to treatments and a vaccine. That’s the way I’m looking at it. It’s better now than in March. It’ll be better in December too as we will be further ahead on the path to scientific breakthroughs
