ok, so I live in the US in a state which while not doing great, isn't having a massive surge right now with numbers actually trending down for the past week.

Public schools have made the decision to go online only when the new school year starts next month. However, DD attends a private elementary school which is going back to 5 day a week in person learning as normal. The safety measures in place will be

  • everyone wears masks for the entire day. Except when playing outside when the kids can take them off
-no parents allowed on campus. Pick up and drop off will be by car only -temperature checks for staff and students daily
  • no communal lunch like usual, they will stay within their own class group
-special classes like Spanish which would usually require going to a different classroom used by all grades will be taught via zoom in their own classroom -6 ft of social distancing enforced at all times.

This is a very small school with less than 200 pupils and an average class size of 10-15. They've been running a summer camp with these measures in place without issue. Right now I feel ok with sending DD back under these circumstances and she desperately wants to go. Would anyone not do this?

Title should say *your DC obv! Also they will be cleaning and sanitizing the desks at regular intervals (or so they say)and providing sanitizer on way in to school and regularly throughout the day

Hi, that sounds like they are doing a lot, if they had that in UK schools I would send mine.

BUT cases in USA seem to be much higher.

It is really hard to decide.

I could cry when I think of our schools with 1500 pupils and no distancing.

PatriciaHolm · 30/07/2020 21:33

I would send her, definitely!

Boringnamechanging · 30/07/2020 21:35

If I felt she could manage with the mask all day then yes I'd be very happy.

TingTastic · 30/07/2020 21:40

How old is she? How does she feel about wearing a mask for so long?

FromEden · 30/07/2020 22:06

She is 8. She is good with wearing a mask if we go anywhere but obviously an entire day is a bit different. I think she will be ok with it. She knows it has to be done.

Absolutely would - expect DS's private school in the UK to do similar.

Yes, I would
