Israeli School Case Study

Detailed analysis of an outbreak at an Israeli school after students were given permission not to wear masks due to heat. Interesting information on transmission within the school, infection rate among students and teachers, and infection among 10-19 year olds in the wider population.

Children in other countries seem able to do this. I believe masks in schools will help reduce transmission. What do you think?

As a secondary teacher (43 with no health issues) I am a little nervous about Sept but think it needs to happen. I cannot contemplate behaviour issues if kids are in masks. In some classes / schools there will be singing, chanting, swearing and we wouldn't know..or be able to prove..who's speaking. Nightmare

seems companies are gearing up for it...

Oh, for children so young too! My 4 year old likes wearing his even though we don't make him. We went to the zoo yesterday and he wore it in the service station. The amount of times he touched it, pulled it down under his nose and by the time we got out it was hanging off one ear! Completely pointless ha!

One hospitalization, from an entire school having the virus spread through it like wildfire.

I don't think this supports eternal lockdowns or mask regulations.

Face covers won't keep schools open.

Israel has a hard and fast lockdown and the locked down much more harshly than we did. They also opened things up very quickly and people were not sensible. It was a disaster waiting to happen.
UK has had a slower easing of lockdown restrictions.

Yes, I wondered if ClimbDad was a union bot... it makes sense. His earlier threads were suggesting that schools should stay shut for the foreseeable future, but given that that isn’t a goer, they have now become a bit “ milder” and seem to be campaigning for face masks.

There is no discussion to be had on these threads, because he just posts a scaremongering “study” which I must admit frightens the life out of me, but doesn’t engage further really, and refuses to state what his reasons for doing this are. And when discussion inevitably drops off a bit, he just starts another thread instead of contributing further to the existing one.

Orangeblossom78 · 29/07/2020 09:05

If he was a concerned parent I think he would have come back on and said that...kind of odd after all the posts to have just vanished is it not...

Orangeblossom78 · 29/07/2020 09:08

MN is looked at for opinions too. I have seen it in the Times, about school reopening in the past. They looked at a post and mentioned that certain percentage MN users 'would not send DC back to school' for example. I guess they used the new percentage figures on AIBU.

I bet before long ClimbDad (or under a different name) will be posting in AIBU that children should have masks.

Oh hang on there already is one...

Everything Irma said

Orangeblossom78 · 29/07/2020 09:11

The Times here, in May..

"...a survey by Mumsnet found that only one parent in five thinks schools should reopen now. Less than half would send their child back immediately"

Last week Mark Woolhouse, a member of the Scottish government’s Covid-19 advisory group, told The Times that closing schools in March was a mistake in hindsight, as there has not been a single confirmed case of a teacher catching coronavirus from a pupil while the risk to children was vanishingly small

I don't understand the bashing of the OP here. Surely @ClimbDad is a realist. We know that being indoors with lots of other people over a prolonged time is a perfect storm. This autumn will be a shit show. No point being ostrich about it. We have to face reality

How do they know as there was no widespread testing for months plus schools were closed to most students. Plus how come children coming back from skiing in Italy escalated our first wave?

Juststopswimming · 29/07/2020 20:49

Because - oldbagface - the OP has made it his life work to post scaremongering threads which prey on already anxious MN'ers. He seems to revel in posting the scariest stories he can find and then watching everyone lose their shit over it. There are several of us who know a thread has been started by him even before we click on it.

So yeah, he gets a hard time and his threads get derailed because he is relentless.

oldbagface · 29/07/2020 23:23

@Juststopswimming well it's hard shit really. I think the op has a point. I wouldn't say scaremongering. Of you're concerned then just report.

Is op a man?

Op is posting reality. Soz, I hate it too but I agree with op.

JimmyGrimble · 29/07/2020 23:41

Excuse me? The OP is ‘preying’ on innocent MNers? FFS I’ve heard it all now. Just carry on with your fingers in your ears - la la la scaremongering. Why not be honest and just say you don’t want to know because you’re so fucking entitled that anything that might get in the way of your lovely lives is, frankly, unacceptable?
