Why are a lot of places still shut in the city centre?

Now places can reopen, why are some of them still closed? I was driving through our city centre today, places still shut include Handmade Burger Co, Gourmet Burger, Yo sushi, quite a few smaller independent restaurants and cafes and pubs.

Is it social distancing killing everything business wise?

That may well be the case. Or it could be that they can't get enough customers in while social distancing to make opening financially worthwhile.

I think a lot of places are/we're on the brink of bankruptcy anyway and not worthwhile to open under SD guidelines

okiedokieme · 25/07/2020 21:25

They can't get enough business I suppose. They are on the verge of bankruptcy already

Babymamamama · 25/07/2020 21:30

Yep bankrupt. Ceased trading?

BogRollBOGOF · 25/07/2020 21:33

Some places have reduced rents while still closed and have the reserves to linger on until trading conditions are more favourable rather than the risk of not meeting incteased costs by opening.
