Can it be Covid with no fever, cough or loss of smell/taste?

I've been feeling rubbish for a few days now with breathlessness, weird back of head headache, extreme tiredness, loss of appetite, bit of an achy chest and a really achy back and neck. Not been at all Ill before this. Also no asthma or anaemia, as I have been tested. Just wondered if this could be an atypical covid presentation? I've been referred for a chest xray , but hopefully that is just a precaution by the docs.

Yep, headache is one of the minor symptoms along with chest/breathing issues obviously. It certainly could be - but also could not be. Personally I'd suggest a test to be sure if you are going to be having to go out for xrays and things. The worst that can happen is it comes back negative and you've wasted 15 minutes of your time.

I’ve had a few days of a very tight, achy chest (enough to keep waking me up for the first two nights) and breathlessness and the Zoe app recommended that I go for a test which I did last night.

Yesterday I barely had any symptoms at all by the time I went for the test but I’ve woken up feeling a bit tight chested again today. No other symptoms and just waiting to hear back now although I still expect it to be negative tbh.

I started with achey chest, feeling really tired and cold and generally rundown, loss of appetite. This lasted about 2 weeks then got worse with typical symptoms but never got a cough.

You might be interested in a release this week about scientists laying out six distinct types of disease pattern following Covid infection:

  1. ''Flu-like' with no fever - Headache, loss of smell, muscle pains, cough, sore throat, chest pain, no fever.
  2. 'Flu-like' with fever - Headache, loss of smell, cough, sore throat, hoarseness, fever, loss of appetite.
  3. Gastrointestinal - Headache, loss of smell, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, sore throat, chest pain, no cough.
  4. Severe level one, fatigue - Headache, loss of smell, cough, fever, hoarseness, chest pain, fatigue.
  5. Severe level two, confusion - Headache, loss of smell, loss of appetite, cough, fever, hoarseness, sore throat, chest pain, fatigue, confusion, muscle pain.
  6. Severe level three, abdominal and respiratory - Headache, loss of smell, loss of appetite, cough, fever, hoarseness, sore throat, chest pain, fatigue, confusion, muscle pain, shortness of breath, diarrhoea, abdominal pain.

They all include a cough, but I'm sure I've seen somewhere else that it is possible for it to manifest without a cough, so I suspect those lists should be interpreted as 'have several of' rather than 'must have all'

My test came back negative this morning... phew!

chelseahotel · 24/07/2020 13:29

I guess the normal viruses are still with us.
I had a headache for a week, then a fever and cough. Tested negative.

I went for a test this morning. Really heavy cold, headache, cough, but from all the snot, mild temp. I don't think it's Covid, but checking as went out to dinner last night. So, if just a really bad cold, where the hell did I pick that up from. Hardly been out and always very careful. Grrrr. Feel like shit.

Clumsyvolcano · 25/07/2020 05:26

The tests can have a 30% false negative rate, so testing negative does not necessarily mean you don’t have covid.

I think that may be why we are still getting spread as people are assuming they are negative because of the false result and going about their lives instead of isolating.

Of course, there is every chance you are negative but people should be mindful they should isolate regardless of result if they feel unwell.

Result back early this morning. Negative, just a heavy cold then.
