If travel company changes hotel, can I get my money back?

I’m not sure if this is the right board but please move it if there’s any other appropriate one. We’ve booked a package holiday to Spain since January before the whole lock down, etc started ( due to travel at the end of Aug) . The final instalment is due in August however I had an email from the travelling company this afternoon to say the hotel we booked in to stay in is closed due to covid and they are offering a different one. The thing is, we actually don’t want to go anymore and we’ve been praying for them to cancel so that we don’t lose money but with this, I want to know where I stand before replying them. Has any one had luck cancelling a package holiday for this reason and still get a refund?

I expect the small print will give them the option to change hotels to a similar one within a reasonable distance.

I saw this question in one of the newspapers and the advice there was that the company could do this. Sorry.

I guess we just have to hope they cancel the whole thing because the news on the cases in the area is not promising either. They’ve changed the flight time too but it’s still departing and arriving the same day.
