Wedding 80 people in UK in August ... how can this be allowed to happen?

Restaurant is holding wedding reception for 80 -100 people in August 2020.
How can this be allowed when guidance is 30 people for a wedding and the celebration. Justification is 'it is a restaurant so just like a 'normal' evening' with strict social distancing etc.
Am I being over sensitive?
I'm just so frustrated and worried that people are looking for grey areas in guidance. 100 family and friends in a room ... will they be able to follow rules??

I don't understand the 30 guests thing. We went to a restaurant last week that had about 60 people eating there. All socially distanced and staff were cleaning each table after use. I can't see why that is allowed but wouldn't be for a wedding.

I don’t see why weddings should be limited to 30 when people are allowed to cram into tubes or visit large restaurants with a hundred or so in the venue.

Am I being over sensitive?

Yes, I think you are.

More than a 100 people in my office so ..... yes .... YABU get a grip

I don’t think you’re being over sensitive.

When done right (and all restaurants I’ve seen have been doing a great job maintaining distancing) 20 separate tables of 5 people, where each group don’t know the others, is very different to 100 people in the same place for the same purpose, I can’t see them maintaining distancing in the same way at all.

Of course not. The alcohol will flow and for many social distancing will be out the window.

Venues are desperate for business so they'll dress it up anyway they can.

TheClitterati · 20/07/2020 07:36

Of course 100 family and friends at a wedding will behave completely differently to 100 strangers in a restaurant, or colleagues in an office.

Are you invited op? Or expected to work there?

I think I can guess where this thread is heading.

Restaurants have limited capacity , as long as the restaurant is within those guidelines the reception can take place. But it's only 30 at the actual ceremony

Cusano34 · 20/07/2020 07:53

Glorious Goodwood is happening with 5000 people in August...! 🤦‍♀️

Cusano34 · 20/07/2020 07:54

@maddy68 no it’s 30 people to the reception
