How will this work then? Will you have to remove it?

Yes you will

RaspberryToupee · 16/07/2020 15:37

DH was asked to lower his mask on Monday while buying alcohol. It’s two seconds to lower a mask and put it back on.

kimlo · 16/07/2020 15:37

well I bought wine today and the woman came to the self service till and authorised it without me needing to take off my mask. Possobly because even with a facecovering on I'm obviously over 21 Grin

I think they would just refuse service woth out id same as they do if they aren't sure.

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 16/07/2020 15:38

I can see a lot of teenagers trying their luck with this

They'll ask for ID.

alexdgr8 · 16/07/2020 15:40

the responsibility remains with the retailer. their licence is at risk.
they will refuse a sale if they have any doubt.
they might ask for official ID.
you can usually get an idea of whether someone is under age by speaking to them; their manner bearing etc, they will be projecting their own self awareness of whether they are entitled to buy goods, whether they realise it or not.
i think this is more of an issue in america, where the age is 21.

CeeJay81 · 16/07/2020 15:44

Hmm i never thought about this one, as someone who will be on the other side of this, it's not going to be easy guessing someone's age when you can't see much of their face

SauvignonBlanche · 16/07/2020 15:47

You don’t need to remove your mask to show your ID Confused

cinammonbuns · 16/07/2020 15:47

Just show your ID?

20viona · 16/07/2020 15:47

I got ID'd today for alcohol today and I was wearing a mask, I wasn't asked to remove it or pull it down. I'm 30 incidentally lol.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 16/07/2020 15:47

They'll count your crows feet or bunny lines.

cinammonbuns · 16/07/2020 15:48

For most people the top of their face is enough to figure out approximately how old they are and in cases when they are not sure then they’ll just ask for ID.

TimeWastingButFun · 16/07/2020 15:54

Just show ID?

ACautionaryTale · 16/07/2020 15:56

But when masked, the id is only vague at best

dementedma · 16/07/2020 15:58

The photo on the id isnt going to match a masked face.

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 16/07/2020 16:10

@dementedma

The photo on the id isnt going to match a masked face.
This is what I was thinking. Younger siblings using their older siblings I.d. I know you could argue that this could happen before all this but surely even more so now?

They'll start asking everyone without lines around their eyes for ID.

cologne4711 · 16/07/2020 22:01

It’s two seconds to lower a mask and put it back on

you're not supposed to touch it though are you?

TimeForLunch · 16/07/2020 22:20

They get you to remove your mask at passport control before flying so presumably they can do the same in shops to check the face against the ID.
