The UK will not be joining the EU's vaccine scheme

I must admit to not knowing a lot about how vaccines are created before this pandemic. Or how political it could be.

I am heartened there are trials going on, but I am also aware that people say a vaccine can't be found and won't work.

I hope we are able to work with other countries in a helpful way, could not care about being "world beating" according to the current conditions.

Sounds like the UK govt doesn't want anything to do with the EU, I guess we shouldn't be surprised after what has happened with Brexit.

In a letter to the European Commission, the UK ambassador to the EU Sir Tim Barrow explained the government was opting out because it felt it wouldn't be allowed to continue its own negotiations with potential suppliers and wouldn't have a say on the price, volume and date of possible deliveries.

Also, since the UK is hoping to deliver its own home-grown vaccine, they will want the best deals they can get, which is a gamble at the moment until they know one is effective!

If we joined the EU one, we would end up paying for most of Europe to have vaccines.

Wonder what happened in the end?

That gamble paid off!
