High proportion of deaths coming from care homes?

It seems to me that many of the deaths are from care homes or other settings. For example, today there were 40 deaths in the UK in hospitals. There were 155 deaths in total so assuming the other 115 are from care or other settings. To me this suggests that the virus is worse in these settings rather than out in the community? Is this perhaps so? I've just noticed recently that UK hospital deaths seem very low in comparison to what they have been. I also wondered what that means to lock down / society- it's awful about the care homes but does that mean the virus is in a way more contained as those dying are already fairly shielded from society?!

'Other settings' means everywhere apart from hospitals, so care homes, people's own homes, prisons, hostels, etc. The majority of these are probably care homes, but you would need a more detailed breakdown to be sure.

NHS England's statistics shows that the daily deaths in hospitals has been less than 100 per day throughout June, and has been less than 50 per day since mid June. Clearly there are still people dying in other settings.

I'm not really clear why people are hung up on daily deaths though - there have not been any excess deaths also throughout June - the number of people dying at the moment is fewer than there normally would be - does it matter that some of them are still dying with covid? Over 10,000 people died in the UK last week, some 800 of them with covid (note: with, not of - people dying in care homes and at home at the moment were very likely dying anyway, otherwise why didn't they go to hospital for treatment)

This is death data by day of death not announced day. The purple is non-hospital; Overall, running at less than 50 a day now, all settings.

These were the deaths “reported” today, not “occurring” today. I believe the 115 deaths from other settings relate to actual deaths over the past few weeks, or months even. I’m not sure if the data is available that would give us details in this though.

It is not daily death rate it is from weeks/months ago
