My 3 year had a really high temp no lower than 38.5 but as high as 41 back in February. Was told it was just virual and to give her the usual paracetamol and ibuprofen. She was like this for 2 weeks then got a ear infection so was on antibiotics start to be her normal self then went down hill again after they had finished. She then started getting a hives type rash took her doctors and they said it's a allergy to some type of food which she has never had in the past and I've not changed anything. Seen the nurses twice as they wouldn't let me see a doctor this whole time until I demand to see one as the rash wasn't getting any better the even gave her a epipen aswell. She ended up having a blood test which showed up that her white blood cells were really low which she needed to have repeated and also tested for leukemia which showed her white blood cells were still low but there was no leukemia which we are thankful for. We had to repeat the same blood test for a 3rd time and her blood cells are back to normal. 2 doctors have both pretty much confirmed it was actually covid 19 that she had we won't actually know for 100% until she gets the antibody test but she has been fighting what ever it is for just Under 5 months now. She is a little superstar ..

I hope she's on the mend and it's not long before she's recovered Flowers

Thats a very long time for a child to have had covid! I would be asking for more tests and demanding an anti-body test!

My 3 year old had the same symptoms back in mid March. Temperature, 'ear infection' and then strange hives and facial swelling about 12 days after. I'm convinced it was covid especially as other adult members of our household had mild coughs at the same time.

She has had 3 blood tests and everything has came back normal was just her white blood cells that weren't which showed there was something her blood was fighting off. Doctors have put in her notes for when the antibody test out for her to get it. She is still to be seen by the hospital as she is also on antihistamine which helps with the rash..

I’m convinced mine had it in March too- rash, temp up to 40 and very rapid breathing. I’ll probably never know but it seems like a very long time for your little one to be poorly.

Yeah it has been just under 5 months that's why she's had 3 blood tests. Thankfully this last one came back that her white blood cells are back to normal and we just have to slowly take her off the antihistamine and hope there is a antibody test for her to take..

It is good to hear that she is ok. It worries me how often we are told children don't catch it etc.

I know I was told by the nurse to keep a food diary because they said it was a allergy even gave her a epipen. I had to fight to get her seen by the doctors who then got the ball rolling and when all the tests came back normal the only other thing it could be is covid but as it's been so long the couldn't do the test if they would have when I rang when she had the high temp then we would
Have known but have to wait for the antibody to know for sure..

There has been a lot of this type of virus around. I do wonder how many have had corona. We also had the high temp for days, rash, and ‘ear infection’ and it took a good couple of months to get over the exhaustion.

rach2713 · 03/07/2020 09:01

My 1 year old had the same but not for long she just had the high temp but my 3 year old got it the worst the doctors said what ever it was had gone into her blood that's why it's taken so long for her to get over what ever it was. 2 doctors have pretty much said she had covid. It is scary to think how many may have had it but not been tested for it and just passed of as a virus..
