Did anyone see the interview with Michael o Leary on GMB?
Everyone was stood next to each other on the plane practically touching.

Suzannah Reid asked what about if people sneeze and cough when they take their masks off to drink. Apparently the chair in front will block the droplets?!

Really???

I understand the industry needs to get flying but at least let people on the plane in small groups so that they are not on top of each other. But it's ok apparently as they have masks on.

Always been dubious of Ryanair and it's cost cutting tricks but this is madness!

I personally don’t think there’s any doubt that planes will heavily spread Corona.. everyone packed together, recycled air & several hours breathing it in? I’ve caught numerous colds from planes. I can’t see how this will be any different really. But I also don’t see what the answer is.. other than basically, we just learn to live with it. I’d personally take the risk if that was the only factor but I don’t fancy ending up being locked in a hotel room for two weeks if someone on my plane and/or hotel tested positive!

My SIL is flying back from Dubai in a couple of weeks (she has been living there) and a couple of days before her flight they have to provide a negative Covid test and then wear a mask during the flight
Now I know she could possibly catch it between taking the test and her flight but they have to wear masks everywhere over there so it’s a much smaller risk.
If every airline insisted on the same it would hopefully dramatically reduce the rate of transmission on flights even better if you could get a same day test plus I’m not sure but if you catch it doesn’t it take a couple of days before you are contagious?

I understand the flying but but they crammed everyone on in the isles like they normally do.

So... what's the solution? Maybe Ryan Air should hike it's prices up about 5x. That would probably suit everyone best.

Plump82 · 01/07/2020 18:42

The thing is no one forced these people on the flight. They are all adults and decided they were happy to fly.

Ellmau · 01/07/2020 19:11

Because of course we all expected Ryanair to be responsible and not put profit ahead of everything else... oh wait...

BackInTime · 01/07/2020 19:52

This is the man who wanted to charge people to use the toilet on board an aircraft and who's planes and crew fly right on the verges of limits and regulations. He has no regard for people's health only his own pockets.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/07/2020 19:54

The problem is that these people are making their own risk assessment for themselves. But also for the people in whichever region country they are flying to. Which is probably somewhere with fewer cases.

rayn · 01/07/2020 21:16

The solution is they let everyone go on in small groups to minimise risk. They all piled on at once. Ryanair is known for cost cutting. FFS they even looked at flying stood up so they could make more money!

what's the solution
there isnt one
public transport is incompatible with preventing transmission

crosseyedMary · 01/07/2020 21:41

He has no regard for people's health only his own pockets
indeed but gone are the days when the elites could cram us all in and milk us for profit

tootyfruitypickle · 01/07/2020 21:50

I saw that video and immediately decided I would not be getting on a plane for the foreseeable !
