I came to see if anyone had posted about this. It's such good news! I've been Googling his name periodically to see if there was any news but there wasn't, which I took as a sign that he hadn't died.

For anyone who doesn't know what we're talking about, a woman called Sue Martin was interviewed on Radio 4's Today programme in April about her husband Mal, who was at death's door with Covid-19. She spoke about how she and her children had been called into the hospital for a final goodbye but that had been a few days before and he was still clinging on. She moved a lot of listeners to tears.

That was three months ago and today's story is that Mal survived, albeit with a harrowing recovery and a damaged body. But he survived and is due to go home.

I was just reading this too. Such good news. I knew of Sue Martin before this (not personally but via a third party) so felt a bit of a connection.

Yes I had been wondering what happened to him too. I hope he makes a full recovery - at the moment he is still very ill and it's a long road, but it looks very promising for him.

I cried when I read the update on BBC news earlier. I remember reading the story back in April and have actually googled his name a couple of times since to check for updates. It's just wonderful. Let's hope we can share a similar good news thread for Derek Draper some day soon.

Great story. I remember reading about this at the height of the pandemic in april. I work in ICU and without going into detail we have had some very similar success stories. Lovely to hear this one from a relatives point of view.

It is good to hear he has got through this. However the BBC have been not great with their reporting of this. The poor man had significant underlying health problems - diabetes and had a previous heart attack and stents, and BBC was not being clear on this in one article.

It is good to hear that someone with such health problems got through in the end.

Maybe his family requested that his health conditions weren't disclosed? Maybe the BBC weren't aware of them, even?

No, they were; it was in a previous article. Then they did another with no mention of it and even saying something along the lines of health having no bearing on the virus which was pretty misleading.

Of course it is wonderful that he has recovered, not taking away form that but they should also be clear with people this was not a man in full health as well.

I saw this today and it made me so happy. Been thinking of her but couldn’t remember her name to google (I take topirimate so my brain is a bit rubbish)
