France road trip and stay?

As my name suggests.. I am planning a road trip to the south of France using own car, possibly staying 2-3 different places along the way for a night.
I think France is pretty much open for business, so I am hoping will have places to eat along the way and will be able to use public toilets. I am sure we will be able to book accommodation, few places are taking booking. So would you say this is a mad idea? Too risky? Obviously will be staying "alert"!!

When? We've got a mobile home in sw france, the advice at the moment is we will have to self isolate for 14 days on arrival, prove where we are isolating and expect to be checked. The bar on site is open for take away only, as is the restaurant. Only 20 people allowed into the pool precinct at any time.

Evening entertainment, kids clubs etc all closed.

If you're in a s/c cottage it would be doable but how do you get past the quarantine?

It's certainly not open as normal at the moment.

My understanding is the quarantine in France is voluntary, not a rule as such

On the way down the plan is to book overnight stays, many places I checked take booking! It's actually busy and one place we really wanted to stay in the south for a week at the end of the trip got all booked in a matter of a week while we debate the idea..

We're hoping to do this too. Don't want to stay 14 days, so hoping quarentine less of a thing in a month's time.

We’re booked into a holiday rental for 12 nights. Will drive down overnight and plan to bbq most nights and lounge around the pool.
If there’s restaurants open and we feel it’s safe to eat out we will a coup,e of times, but mainly we’re going for a change of scenery, the pool and hopefully, the weather

I know someone who has just gone to France to take her daughter back as she lives there. She said she was staying there a week, she didn't mention quarantine except when she comes back to the UK.

Quarantine for people coming from the UK is voluntary. Pretty sure it will be abandoned once the UK change their position.

Bars and restaurants are fully open (with some restrictions re numbers/SD)

We live in a very touristy area and all of the attactions, lakes etc are starting to open up. Again, there are restrictions but they are all very sensible and fully signposted.

We are hoping to take the car down to Spain at the end of August providing we are ok to do so. So no I don't think you are mad.

Also hoping to do this. I feel like the Eurotunnel and road trip is much safer than a plane journey. We are hoping to stay at a couple of eurocamp sites, so self catering and we usually bbq most of the evenings.

France seems to have the situation pretty much under control as much as possible so I’m hoping we will get to use the pool and have a few days out along the way!

I did very briefly consider a trip to Disney on the way back home but I’m not sure I’m ready for that yet!

been looking for the past few days for a nice Gite. NOTHING nice is available (which fits us and our budget) I started checking out completely random places in France just for the sake of finding a window...as I got excited about a place, I would click the 'booking' tab with dread to find yet another solid red calendar across the whole of July and August .. like nothing happened in the world. it's heart breaking.

As soon as lockdown was lifted, flood gates opened, but I guess a lot of the booking were already in place prior to covid and now just going ahead as planned.. or people are so on it..

Oh no!
I expect more of the french people are holidaying closer to home too.
Could you consider Belgium or the Netherlands?

@Mumto3thatsme yes, maybe more the Netherlands for me.. I always go to Amsterdam as I love it so much but it would be fun to find a tranquil village somewhere in the countryside, I never looked into it.. good idea.
