Positive cases are a bit stagnant aren’t they?

We seem to be hovering roughly around the 1400 mark every day, when it comes to positive test results.
I’m wondering if it’s just going to stay at this number or thereabouts for the foreseeable future. Why aren’t the number of cases dropping?

Positive test results don’t give us the whole picture. Researchers like kings collage London use a symptom tracking app that nearly 4 million people are using. They use the data to estimate cases in the community that haven’t taken a test. A week and a half ago they were estimating 10,000 new cases a day, now we’re down to 3500 a day

“ While care home outbreaks have continued to decline, an increase in school and ‘other settings’ outbreaks have been noted over the past few weeks.”

ONS estimate about 4000 a day. The numbers on the slides are only those who have had a test and are positive and apparantly they include some double counting. I find it quite worrying that there are around 3000 people a day who have Covid but are not tested and so presumably not isolating so possibly out and about infecting others.
