Mixing households on self catering break

We are due to go on a self catering break away with extended family at the beginning of August (my DH’s parents and his brother and wife. We had it booked before lockdown happened. It’s in Devon and we’ve had confirmation it’ll be going ahead.

We haven’t seen them since lockdown started as they all live 3 hours drive from us.

We have decided to go, our DS is really looking forward to it, but are thinking of self isolating a week before and a week after, would this be sufficient? Or would it need to be two weeks?
We’ll all be staying in the same holiday cottage sharing a bathroom etc. while we are there. No one is in the at risk catogery.

The rules will probably be different by then.

Well, with the current rules you can't go and stay with them at all regardless of isolating.

In a month's time, who knows.

In the same boat OP. Meant to be going away at the end of August with 2 other households and we were all really looking forward to it.

I guess all we can do is wait and see. As it stands, no, it wouldn't be allowed, but in a couple of months, hopefully things will have moved forward.

Personally, I don't see why you can't if you all self isolate for 2 weeks beforehand. We're all WFH and all get our food etc delivered, so it wouldn't be difficult. I understand not everyone can do that.

I know you ‘can’t’ but if we self isolated before and after then I don’t see what the issue would be.
What is the worst than happens? We get a fine?
I’m getting throughly fed up with it all if I’m honest. Talking of opening pubs, but nothing more about seeing families and staying overnight, particularly if they live further away.

Re the worst that happens in terms of legal consequences: under the current law you could end up with a criminal conviction and a fine. However, I think it's very likely the law will have changed again by August. Re how long to isolate for: most people show symptoms within 7 days of being infected, but most is obviously not the same as all. If you are wanting to be virtually 100% sure you are not incubating
the virus then you need to self-isolate for 14 days. (I believe there have been a tiny number of cases reported with even longer incubation periods, but probably so few as to be not worth worrying about. )

Hopefully by August households will be permitted to mix.

Her name is on the reservation as lead booker, and she has paid and reclaimed 2/3 from the other families. But they want it back if they can't go! It is way too big and expensive a property for her family alone.

I'm in a similar position but with a total of 6 households (10 people) hoping to go away together. No possibility of isolating before and after as DH and I need to work, so we will need the rules to have changed. We have until mid July to pay the balance and the deposit is refundable so we are holding off on making a decision until closer to the time and keeping everything firmly crossed.

Same op - self catering cottage booked at end of August. 2 families mixing. I’m really hoping household mixing will be allowed. I’ll struggle to enjoy it if it’s illegal

What a total set of twats...so do they expect her to refund them just because she did the work in booking. Unbelievable.

I bet they won't go away together again either. I wouldn't

DD4 hoping to be away from July 17 with her partner and his family for a week self-catered in July. If she has to, she’ll move into our garage flat, become a single person household then go and bubble with them. They’ll have been apart 16 weeks, if Cummings is fine to do it, then two self-isolating families should be able to.
