Scotland Phase 2

Anyone disappointed? I am. Not sure why as i dont really know what I expected. I think the 5 mile rule thing got to me as we dont live near anyone we can visit so actually nothing has changed at all. Had a wee cry after i heard it.

Rozzy I think you can justifiably claim to be helping a vulnerable person. Nobody can reasonably be expected to be a carer 24/7 with no respite or support.

NS is definitely a much better speaker than the PM but all the praise for her handling this situation better than him is getting on my nerves. Her initial response to it was almost identical, the care home situation in Scotland has been at least as bad as in England and now it seems the much better communication is going downhill too.

secretllama · 18/06/2020 17:21

So disappointed today. Why give us a roadmap out of lockdown , tell us were going into phase 2 and then not allow half of what was stated in phase 2.
I'm honestly so close to being done. Its unhealthy and unnatural to be denied human contact with your family this long. I think I'll make my own risk assessments soon.

mylittlesandwich · 18/06/2020 17:24

@secretllama my mum lives alone and so is allowed to expand her household. It makes sense for her to choose my sister as she doesn't have a garden but I'm so jealous that she'll get a hug from my mum.

CarrieMoonbeams · 18/06/2020 17:25

Yeah I'm really disappointed, it really feels like NS is enjoying her 'moment' so much that she's going to string it out for as long as possible.

I'm also worried about small businesses, and I wonder how many people are actually unemployed at the moment and just don't know it yet.

Not impressed with this update at all! We need some dates to be announced, people are just desperate for some hope and some normality. And desperate for something to eat that we haven't had to shop for and cook ourselves - I swear I do my 10,000 steps a day between the kettle and the fridge!

Mammy99 · 18/06/2020 22:23

Yes I'm so annoyed. I feel what was said about phase 2 before today has been so misleading. It's honestly ridiculous. My family live on one of the isles and I'm wondering when they'll ever be able to come and meet their new grandchild. The same lockdown for the islands is also ridiculous, some haven't seen any new cases in months.

Letshavesometea · 18/06/2020 22:39

Yes I'm very disappointed. Especially the U turn on restaurants and pubs being able to open for outside dining. Was also hoping I'd be able to meet my father indoors for father's day as the weather looks rubbish- suppose I can, as long as I sit on the toilet and not the couch!

Letshavesometea · 18/06/2020 22:40

I also feel like we have been given a few things to make us feel like we are in phase 2, when we are really not.

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 18/06/2020 22:41

Yep annoyed here too. I was looking forward to taking my kids to the playground this weekend, but no. Another 11 days. They haven’t been anywhere except for a walk in 3 months and kids don’t seem to be affected much by the virus. And I can’t see the difference between us driving less than 5 miles to the small zoo near us or driving 15 to the bigger one 🙄

JamMakingWannaBe · 18/06/2020 22:52

Loads of kids - and parents - in my local swing park today, using all the play equipment. Guidelines are being ignored now.

Redolent · 18/06/2020 22:53

Going by her Twitter feed, it looks like NS’s aim is elimination of the virus in Scotland, hence having more chance of actual normality (New Zealand style), rather than partial easings that are neither here nor there. I kind of get that idea - the more you suppress the virus before opening up, the more ‘opening up’ will actually be meaningful. Not really sure how she’s going to prevent the importation of imported cases.

Plump82 · 18/06/2020 22:53

Im glad its not just me. My MIL and sistet were trying to make parts of it sound positive but my MIL has been breaking lockdown rules since the beginning and my sister lives 5 mins from my mum, has been furloughed and loving life so who really cares! Im feeling very bitter. And im desperate to just hug my neices.

Driving 60 miles won't increase my risk anymore than driving 5 miles

This is not the purpose of the 5 mile limitation

I'm happy enough to wait another month to six weeks if that's what it takes to complete suppress the virus to the point whereby we can confidently reopen most things with few restrictions. I don't want to be in a stop-start situation whereby we're derestricting things only to have to shut them down again a few weeks later because of outbreaks.

I don't really care about being able to meet other people as it's not something I normally bother about anyway, but I would like to be able to get a haircut! Grin

Jellycatspyjamas · 19/06/2020 06:25

Driving 60 miles won't increase my risk anymore than driving 5 miles

No but it’ll stop people flocking to rural areas potentially carrying the virus to areas with low infection rates and limited health care facilities.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 19/06/2020 07:37

I live in Edinburgh (EH6) and I'm still more than 5 miles from the zoo! I would still be prepared to go, in theory, but I don't drive and I'm not clear on whether it would be OK to take a bus to get there or not.

Nikki078 · 19/06/2020 08:20

I like someone describing it as phase 1.25. Between what changes today, on Monday and on the 29th (plus what may or may nit change later...) I'm starting to lose track of what we are allowed to do at any given time, so I presume lots of people feel the same!

CaptainMerica · 19/06/2020 08:31

They had been saying for a while that it would only be SOME phase 2 measures, but I'm not sure that message really got picked up in the media.

The zoo thing is pointless though, there can hardly be a zoo in the country that it will be worth opening. Edinburgh maybe, and smaller city park ones, like Camperdown in Dundee, perhaps. I want to go to Blair Drummond!

Ohjustme · 26/06/2020 06:39

So i see she made sone quick changes after Boris gave his update. Or am i just being cynical. I see shes also said certain things that were meant to happen in phase 3 won't come in to play before the 23rd July. So for example wedding numbers, nail salons etc.
Ive a vested interest because im due to be married on the 25th. I was feeling quite positive till she said that! I wonder if she'll perhaps increase numbers, but not by much??

Breckenridged · 26/06/2020 07:00

I’m starting to lose track of what we are allowed to do at any given time, so I presume lots of people feel the same!

Yes I agree with this! Generally though I prefer the slower approach.

rogueantimatter · 26/06/2020 14:10

ohjustme What a situation to be in. In England weddings with up to 30 people will be permitted shortly I think. Not sure if the 30 includes the bride and groom.

Ohjustme · 26/06/2020 14:37

We only have 11 guests. So even if she just upped it to 15 it would be perfect!!

Ohjustme · 09/07/2020 16:25

Well Phase 3 seems ok? She briefly touched on weddings and im so eager to find allowed numbers but there's nothing online advising of this. Wish they'd hurry up and release some more details.
