Insurance - BMA statement on people not able to get insurance after testing

Is anyone else worried about having the antibody test in relation to insurance? BMA put out a statement on frontline staff not being offered cover due to insurance companies not knowing the long term consequences

What sort of insurance?

Life insurance for mortgages etc. It feels so wrong that NHS frontline staff are having their applications deferred/rejected if they have a positive test

Presumably you mean the 'I've got it right now' test, which will be negative again in a couple of weeks.

I think you have to declare many medical conditions for some insurances - they can't necessarily reject you, but they can change your premiums, and people who are very unwell might have to go to a specialist provider. I can see why they seek to exclude active infection with current pandemic disease. But no reason for it to continue to be relevant once you test negative again (and if applying as a cohabiting unit, second person has also isolated in accordance with guidelines)

Also shows they are taking long term effects seriously unlike government.
Concerning for children having had it too...!

As more becomes known about long term effects, I am sure it will become more of an issue for insurers & indeed many employers.

Gosh I didn't know that about US military @mac12 . I worry a bit about the track and trace data being available to US insurance and private medical providers too under Boris's transatlantic buddy deals!

@RoseAndRose It's actually the antibody test I'm thinking about. It's more the long term insurance risk of people who have had the virus. It seems counter intuitive doesn't it as most people think it's good to be out the other side of the virus and have antibodies

It's hard not to get a bit paranoid and swept up in worries at the moment!
