Should travel insurance take on my claim?

Requested a refund from Ryanair last month, in a queue for a refund. Legally I thought they had 7 days to refund, contacted Virgin money travel insurance, they said I have to be told by Ryanair that they will not give me a refund for them to start a claim.
But I've no timescale what so ever so should they take on my claim or is there anything else I can do?

I paid with debit card, possibly go through my bank?

I think you have to do what everybody else is doing and wait tbh. It's unlikely your travel insurance will pick this up, as they have said Ryanair haven't refused your refund.

Unprecedented circumstances leading to massive demand for customer service agents to deal with these things yet less agents working is just something we need to be mindful of.

Yes think I'll have to wait, I don't mind waiting if they have rough timescales especially when apparently flights are going to be resuming in the next month or so

All insurance policies are different, I guess. My insurers are happy for me to claim now for an upcoming flight (beginning July) given the current FCO travel advisory. I would need to provide them evidence that - if the flight goes - I was a no show. Could you speak to them about the applicability of the Foreign Office advice?

ryanair told us its 3-6 months wait for May refunds.

its understandable considering they will have literally millions of refunds to work through and im guessing staff issues like everyone else.
