Taking my 1 year old for covid test tomorrow

He's got a really high temp. Came on today. He hasn't been himself for a couple of days. Worried he has covid but really hoping he hasn't. It's the third temp he's had since lockdown. Has anyone taken their child for a covid test before? What can I expect? His temp was nearly 40 before calpol so am quite worried about him. Trying desperately to get him to drink but he won't..

Has he any other symptoms OP?
Have you contacted the NHS for advice? That temp is very high for such a wee one.

I took my primary age child a few weeks ago due to a high temperature. As your child is under 5 I believe the process is different but I don't know how? With my DC we had to put the swab on their tonsils and then swab their nose too. The result came back the following day and was thankfully negative.
Could it be teething in your DC's case?

How is his temperature after calpol? If his temperature is still over 38.5 I think I'd ring 111 for some guidance.

It's good you are booked in for a Coronavirus test but there are lots of other things it could also be.

High temp and not wanting to drink was always a sure sign of tonsillitis when mine were little. Can you see redness / white spots on the tonsils?

@Didyeaye it's come down now to 37.2 but will shoot up again when calpol wears off. I've spoken to a doctor (family member) who said it's not high enough to be super worried and just keep an eye on it. Family member is on hand if I need anything thankfully.

No other symptoms.

@concernedforthefuture he won't open his mouth long enough for me to see. He's asleep at the moment but will try and have a look when he wakes.

I’d be more worried about an infection of some sort, ear infection, tonsillitis, UTI?

My DS kept getting temperatures on and off over a few weeks and it turned out he had an ear infection. I think I’d want him looked at by the GP.

I agree about being more worried about some sore of infection. In my experience it’s infections that cause the spiking temps, brought down by medication only to spike again before the next dose is due.
