Holidays to Spain - I don’t get it?

Yesterday, I got an email from Ryanair saying ‘Spain is re-opening! Book your flights!’ ..

So, I’m allowed to book seats on a plane next to my parents. But not allowed to see them at home. I can book to stay on the same hotel as my parents. But I can’t see them at home. I presume I could book a villa & stay with them in it? But I can only see them from a distance at home. I will need to quarantine when I get home. That’s fine, I’m on maternity leave & my OH is WFH.

What am I missing here?! If we all fall into the low risk category.. I cannot get my ahead around the rules. I don’t understand. Why can I go abroad but not see my family. Why can I probably see them in Spain but not here. And mostly, why do Spain want us arriving in our thousands from the UK where the infection rate remains pretty high?

(I also assume Spain will end up with loadsa hotels locked down from outbreaks from UK customers?!)

Tourist companies offering flights aren't the government. They're completely different things.

Unless you're suggesting everyone be banned from leaving the country I don't know what you don't get.

Surely that's happening in July? So all of those things, you will be able to do in the UK.

What are you struggling with? You couldn't get on a plane next week to go on holiday. Not all travel is tourism.

Just because Spain says we can come doesn’t mean the U.K. says we can go. FCO advice is still not to travel, and quarantine is being introduced.

^This.

In any event it's possibly a generic e-mail to all/some Ryanair customers pretty much regardless of where they live...

It's up to the individual to book (or not) depending on the regulations at both ends of the journey...

As an aside TBH I wouldn't be surprised if the UK quarantine for those inbound to the UK fails to materialise.....

Hope we are allowed by August, we have flights (booked last year) for the 1st and have to pay the rest of the accommodation (non refundable) by 2nd July. Insurance company have confirmed we can claim back for the accommodation if the flights aren’t going but still stressed with the not knowing!

I meant to add that they are thinking of using Covid sniffer dogs. They have been having the same success rate as the testing and can pick it up on surfaces, as well as in people. Which would be ideal for airports/train stations etc.

Risks are lower in Spain than the UK as they have mismanaged the crisis less badly than our government.

Plus the UK government and Spanish governments are...erm...separate, so what the UK government says does not have to apply in Spain and vice versa.

You can't travel to Greece whatever the UK government says, as British tourists are banned from Greece because our mortality rates are so high. Sad

@Bol87
I read it the same way!
You can sit next to each other when on the plane, but you can’t share a car to the airport.
There are many things that contradict. Like I can’t have my mum around inside the house 2m apart. But I can pay her to clean inside my house 2m apart.
I cant give her a lift to the hospital. But she can take a taxi, with a taxi driver that has been in close contact with lots of people. But if we work together in London, then we can car share to avoid using public transport.

But as far as holidays go generally, we shouldn’t go abroad on holiday until the fco say we can x I’m hoping a week in the uk this summer. 🤞🏻
