Holiday 2021 to USA?

We were due to go to Florida this summer for a holiday but have decided to cancel as everything is just too unpredictable atm. We will lose some money (deposits) but not a huge amount thankfully.

I said to DH that we should look at booking for next summer to give us all something to look forward to, but he is very hesitant as he says he is worried about there being a second wave next year and we could end up being in the same position.

We don’t have to decide right now, but realistically if we want to secure the accommodation then we will have to make a decision in the next couple of months. We also have to negotiate DSS’s holiday dates with DH’a ex (which is never easy at the best of times).

I am hoping all will be ok by next summer but DH is really worried.
WWYD?

I'm in exactly the same position. We're going in 2022 now, not because of worry about a second wave but because of how crowded we think it will be next year. It's the Disney 40th anniversary and huge numbers of people due to go this year will be rebooking for next year.

@whereiscaroline it’s the Magic Kingdom’s 50th anniversary next year so yes it will be insanely busy.
However, the following year (2022) is Epcot's 40th anniversary, so it’s also likely to be busy then as well!

We were actually supposed to go last year but due to DH being cautious with money we decided to save a bit more and wait until this year 😢

I guess my dilemma is, if we keep putting it off we may never get there (and the DC are getting older and may not want to join us on holidays for much longer)
I just can’t decide what to do!

And by the way, I do realise this is a first world problem

How old are your DC? Mines 13 at the moment so we're going more for the rides and general experience than the character experiences anyway IYSWIM. He will still want to come at 15.

When are you planning to go, what time of year? That might have an impact.

Appreciate what you're saying about Epcot but I'm not a big Epcot fan anyway and can't see it having the same impact on numbers as the Magic Kingdom anniversary. Although I guess there must be an upper limit on visitor numbers so may be a non issue anyway.

We rebooked in March for April next year (was supposed to be travelling earlier this month).

I am now concerned about whether or not it will go ahead. Two of our party are shielding so if it’s still circulating I imagine the won’t be able to go. As well as that, if masks are still required that will also put me off. I struggle breathing enough in this country when wearing one (I’m asthmatic) and the thought of wearing one in Floridian heat puts me off.

I think there is no real answer here. It’s such a rapidly changing situation that no one will know what the world will be like by then. If it is all open, it will be busier than usual. Not just because of the anniversary but also with people who have rebooked from this year to next. They might embrace the ‘virtual queue’ idea though which could ease queuing times somewhat!

We have to go in the summer holidays due to my job.
DS is 15 this year, so I’m concerned if we wait two years he will be 17 when we go and DSS will be 19.

I wouldn't go till social distancing has come to an end. The last place you want to be is in a crowded place.

I also don't trust the Florida state government or local population to keep tourists safe. DH's colleagues there say there is very little going on in the way of social distancing, mask wearing, etc right now.
